AUDIE BLAYLOCK'S BIOGRAPHY...Born in El Paso, Texas, and raised in Lansing, Michigan, Audie Blaylock picked up a guitar at age eight and hasn't put it down since.
Now, after more than 25 years on the road as a sideman, he has stepped to center stage, fronting his own band, Audie Blaylock and Redline, and bringing the energy of the early days of bluegrass to every show.
Audie was born in 1962 into a musical family whose roots go back to the hills of Virginia and Tennessee where bluegrass was born. He learned to play the guitar and sing with his mother and father, then moved on to playing locally around the Lansing area; but bigger things were in the works. In 1982, at age 19, Audie Blaylock joined Jimmy Martin and The Sunny Mountain Boys and spent nine years on the road learning the craft of bluegrass from one of the music's first-generation legends. Through the 1990s Audie played with Red Allen, The Lynn Morris Band, and Red's son Harley Allen. In 2000, he joined Rhonda Vincent's band, and in 2001, with award-winning instrumentalists Tom Adams and Michael Cleveland, helped that band win the IBMA Entertainer of the Year Award. That year also brought the first of Audie's four nominations for Guitar Player of the Year. He also released his first solo CD, Trains are the Only Way to Fly, of which Country Standard Time said: "From the opening title cut to the finale," Pages Of Time ," there is no mistaking Audie Blaylock's music as anything but hard driving, traditional-style bluegrass."
Audie's session work has been honored with a GRAMMY® nomination for Best Bluegrass Album and an IBMA nomination for Recorded Event of the Year for "A Tribute to Jimmy Martin: The King of Bluegrass", a group project that included Audie on guitar and vocals along with a stellar lineup of musicians including former Sunny Mountain Boys J.D. Crowe, Paul Williams, and Kenny Ingram.
Audie resides in Garrett, Indiana, with his family
