About Me

Being frequently afflicted by what can only be described as "wanderlust", I have found myself traveling to a number of different places and being driven by a number of ecclectic (conflicting?) passions. Here's an at-a-glance Derek travelography: I was born in Eau Claire, WI. Grew up in Chaska, MN. Graduated from high school in Elbow Lake, MN. I spent my college years at Luther College in Decorah, IA and the University of Glasgow in Glasgow, Scotland, spending summers in west central Minnesota or Minneapolis, whoring myself out as a director or musical director for community theatres. I graduated from Luther in 2004 with a B.A. in Psychology and Musical Theatre. I was intending on moving back to Scotland after graduation, but was offered a full-time job as an HIV Community Educator and HIV Testing Counselor at the Minnesota AIDS Project in Minneapolis... hard to pass that up, eh? And after nearly two years at MAP, I got an offer to do more comprehensive sexual health work with the HIM Program of the Red Door Clinic, and life is much more fast-paced and very good. Let's see, what else would be good to know? I do dudes. That's probably good to know. I sing in the Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus, the small group OutLoud!, play softball with the Biohazards and Blizzard teams in the TCGSL, and am a freelance photographer. I have a (some say unhealthy) deep-rooted love for lesbians (I'm fairly certain I was a 1950's lipstick lesbian last time round...). I think it might be linked to my strange attraction to jeeps. I've recently moved to Seattle, WA to attend medical school at the University of Washington!

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I think this section is best illustrated through the delightful words of my dearest Anne Tainor...

"she threw herself eagerly into the paths of unsuitable men..."

Bring it on.
