Athens, GA-based band, Bart King and The Fair Shakes recently began work on their first full-length album at famed Dallas Austin Recording Project (DARP) studios in Atlanta with engineer Graham Marsh. The album will be the follow-up to King’s solo EP, 'Start Something,' which he released in 2004 upon returning to Athens, GA after several years living in New York City and Maine.
'Start Something' featured King on guitars, piano and vocals, and demonstrated his range as both a musician and a songwriter, who draws on a background in jazz piano, an education in 20th century American poetry and a love for southern blues and rock to create performances that are at once familiar, but unquestionably original.
With the addition of The Fair Shakes, King now has a band that shares his love for Americana sounds and deep rhythmic grooves. From high-energy numbers that explore the intersections of blues, funk and rock to mid-tempo torch songs and even an occasional waltz, the unifying element is King’s dedication to meaningful songwriting and his soulful delivery, as well as the nuanced musicianship of The Fair Shakes.
