About Me
the mourning routine is a folk and old-style country based project by wesley gray with an occasional bluegrass twinge. i also, occasionally, throw in some spacey synth. the lyrics are personal and very expressive and meaningful to me, though others tend to find meaning in them to themselves. it is a solo project but i'm ALWAYS looking for people to collaborate with. i play all the instruments that you hear in the current recordings. i can't really explain what the music is about. it does it on it's own. listen! and add it if you like it.
book a show, while you're at it! i mainly just play little sets for small groups of friends, right now. i'd like to get into some dive bars and get beer bottles thrown at me.
discography:
the talking board (2010)
i am currently working with a 4-track recorder and my macbook (using logic express) to record my 4th release which is tentatively titled "the talking board". this album will continue on with my traditional sounding folk/americana sound with some ethereal and spacey synth on a song or two. i'm certain to employ acoustic guitar, harmonica, banjo, rhodes piano, pedal steel guitar, lap steel guitar, and mandolin on this album. there will of course be drinking songs and probably a few feel good songs, too! i'm trying to collaborate with as many people as possible on this album so let me know if you're interested! i hope you all enjoy what is to come on this album!

one for the road (2009)
the third release. it's generally quiet bedroom style folk-pop and old-style country with an occasional bluegrass twinge and a couple of more upbeat songs. i used a lot of instruments including guitar, steel guitar, rhodes piano, drums, banjo, and analogue synthesizer. the album was recorded in my home studio and was produced by me, as well. hints the shitty sound quality.
