About Me

Ground has been broken for the construction of I-69, the NAFTA Superhighway, in southern Indiana. After 18 years of fierce public opposition and intense corporate lobbying, on March 11th, 2008 the construction company Gohmann A&C began using heavy equipment to remove trees on the lots of the six evicted houses within the first 1.77 miles of the proposed route. If completed I-69 will stretch some 2000 miles from the Canadian border to the Mexican border where it will connect with the Atlantic corridor highway of Plan Puebla Panama (PPP).
The cost to complete I-69 in Indiana is huge--$4 billion taxpayer dollars and rising—and the population of the state is overwhelmingly against it. Surveys show 74% of Hoosiers are against the road, 150,000 signatures have been collected on petitions to stop the road and 20,467 out of the 21,873 public comments (94%) to INDOT were opposed to the new terrain I-69 route. In Indiana alone, the highway is slated to displace 450 families and destroy 5,000 acres of farmland, 1,500 acres of forest, and 300 acres of wetlands, devastating the habitats of countless species of animals, many of them already endangered. Although the state's justification for the road is job creation, using INDOT's own numbers, the cost to taxpayers per job created would be $359,375.
NOW IS THE TIME TO STOP THIS MONSTER OF A ROAD!!!

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who lives on the route and doesn't want to be forced off. Anyone who loves the land and culture of Southern Indiana as it is. Anyone who doesn't want semi-trucks and sprawl invading their communities. Anyone who wants to stem the rising tide of environmental destruction and the increasing exploitation of its human inhabitants. Anyone who struggles to resist the encroachment of governments and corporations into all aspects of daily life.
