Gods of the Radio

About Me

Gods of the Radio has captured the essence of the mini rock opera in its debut album, Narrowcasting. This classically influenced narrative draws upon the most basic of human emotions, unrequited love and self-doubt. Gods of the Radio has clearly managed to resurrect this all but forgotten art form, reminiscent of The Who, Pink Floyd and more recently MEW.Narrowcasting was both conceived and heavily influenced by chief songwriter/producer Steven Sellers’ experiences in Germany; in particular, East Berlin. Singer/songwriter Ashley Winters brings life to this drama through an evocative arrangement of vocal lines comparable to the likes of John Lennon and Lane Staley.Although Narrowcasting is truly a concept album, Gods of the Radio does not forget to incorporate a handful of singles. Fighting David Bowie, according to Sellers was written”…partly out of frustration, admiration and the longing for my love interest to revere my music above all others’.” Valerie is another seemingly one-way love affair for Sellers, while Russian Hostage Crisis is Winters’ reaction to “…the cries of the murdered children,” lost in the Beslan school tragedy of 2004.Narrowcasting takes a more sinister turn with No Guarantees in which Sellers recalls a near fatal car accident involving himself and former bandmate Harry Rushakoff of Concrete Blonde. Inversely, The Nothing deals with the aftermath of a near fatal relationship as Winters responds, “There’s nothing you can take from me now.”Gods of the Radio formed in the winter of 2004 and by June of 2005 was already performing at the Glastonbury Festival following Babyshambles. Narrowcasting was recorded at a number of studios throughout California including Korn’s Elementree Studios in Hollywood with co-producer Tim Harkins.Gods of the Radio will be back in Los Angeles this summer to record their second project, Ark of the Arts. As an autobiographical journey through existentialism, this operatic trichotomy will be released as an interactive dvd, truly bridging the gap between artist and audience. Stay tuned... the best has yet to come!!!
