Several years ago, life’s situations with it’s people and personalities prompted me to look beyond my then, present day to day and ask of myself what direction and interest did the future hold for me. I began to realized it was time to full fill personal wants and goals, like long distance biking, swimming, reading, learning music and more; with the “more†leading me into photography and “photography†leading to my past. My father being a plumber in rural America his work landed him on farmsteads fixing wells for farmers, continuously. Many of these farms had abandon buildings on them with so many people migrating towards the cities and they’d leave what they didn’t want, need, or had room for where it was. I remember going in these places as a child with amazement. Seeing things from ordinary life, such as toys, clothing, and photographs. I couldn’t image leaving these things; some being in working condition while others needed a little tender loving care, but still workable. All this would make me ask why? As a teen and after I had grown out of the “wanting to be with dad†stage, I found myself always riding my motorcycles towards dirt roads. On a lot of these would be old farms. Once again I was drawn in. Or I’d find the ditches that farmers would discard there things. Thinking these things would work as damns to block the soil from washing away. Still, I’d be asking why? Now as an adult I have found a way back. Perhaps, always being a photographer at heart and a native of Iowa, with my family still in Villisca. Many of my pictures are taken around the town I grew up in, so now these past surroundings have become my favorite subjects. With an interesting perspective, I work to capture the nature and emotion of my subjects. I see those small details and nuances that others miss. I search for the membranes of the people I feel. This is reflected in the shots I choose to capture. What the heart, the soul, and the eye can see I attempt to solidify on film. This was wrote for me and about me with the help of a Very Special friend. Thank you Sleep.
