About Me

I am a muse and catalyst of the universe. http://home.coa.edu/gislab/kjohnson/index.htmlI live in providence, ri for the time being while taking a break from whale work to help out my sister raise her two girls (3 and 6). b-lo is here too. in my real life, I am a whale biologist and marine educator. I have studied whales in alaska, washington, oregon, california, the gulf of maine, the gulf of st. lawrence, off southeast coast. my favorite whale is the blue, but most of my research has been on fins and humpbacks. while I am taking a break from the whales, I am working for a temp agency and currently serve as acting administrator for the chairman of the department of medicine for brown university. it is a pretty interesting job, I am learning way more about faculty medical appointments than I ever thought existed. to make life fun, I also work at ll bean in mansfield and I tutor as well. I have recently volunteered to translate a marine education website into german. so that should be fun. for real fun, b-lo and I take the girls out into lincoln woods to learn climbing, go biking, mess around in the garden, go to plays, visit the zoo, explore the natural history museum and planetarium, and whatever else we can do to get outside. we are having a good time exploring provy and little rhody and learning that there's a lot to this little state! I have a master's in human ecology from the college of the atlantic. what is that? whatever you want it to be. my focus was marine mammal research and education and I created an on-line GIS website that focuses on marine policy, whale distribution, and oceanography. I love the ocean and have been very fortunate to live many years on islands around the united states (catalina island, ca for 2 years, mount desert island, me for 3 years, st. simons island, ga for 1 year; does rhode island count?). I recently finished my PADI divemaster and have been diving for 18 years now. I don't have a dive partner here in RI, so if you dive, drop me a line! I have lots of experience in cold water diving... a high quality of life is important to me, that doesn't mean I need a lot of money but I need to be where I can cook, read, go out for a beer at a good pub, walk on the beach, hike mountains, and spend as much time outside as possible (except when it is cold...). I have a great beau who is currently the "manny" (that's male nanny) to my nieces while kicking ass in a local bike shop and coaches ski racing for a local high school. he does cool stuff like teach them important life skills such as rock climbing and skateboarding. go big or go home
