Bio:
Arguably one of the most naturally-gifted female players, Misty May-Treanor and partner Kerri Walsh captured the gold medal at the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics, and her 19 wins (domestic plus international) in 2007 tie her for the most ever among women. In Hermosa Beach in 2007 she became the all-time wins leader, chalking up her 73rd title, and in Boston in 2007 she became the all-time earnings leader. May-Treanor and Walsh have also captured the SWATCH-FIVB World Championships in 2003 (Rio de Janeiro), 2005 (Berlin) and 2007 (Gstaad).The pair went on an impressive and record-breaking 89-match winning streak in 2003-04, then collected 50 straight match victories from just after the Olympics until July 2005. She and Walsh have been named AVP Team of the Year four years in a row (2003 through 2006) and May-Treanor was named Most Valuable Player in 2005 and 2006, Best Offensive Player in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and added Best Defensive Player in 2006.May-Treanor has led the AVP in victories in four of the last five seasons, and the FIVB for four of the last six years. She finished the 2005 season ranked second in hitting percentage (.489), third in digs (916), and fourth in kill percentage (.570). In 2006 she was third in hitting percentage (.511), fourth in kill percentage (.578), and fifth in both digs (5.50 per game) and kills (6.92 per game).Nicknamed "Turtle," she paired up with Holly McPeak early in her career, collecting her first five career wins in addition to placing fifth in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. In Huntington Beach in 2006, she surpassed $1 million in career earnings, just the second American woman to accomplish that feat.May-Treanor attended Long Beach State where she was part of the 1998 NCAA Championship, defeating Penn State and was awarded the NCAA Championship Co-MVP. In addition to the victory, May-Treanor received several other collegiate accolades including the 1998 Honda Broderick NCAA Athlete-of-the-Year Award and was an NCAA First-Team All-American in the years 1996-1998. Her 1998 team was one of just three college teams to go undefeated in a season. She graduated with a BA in Kinesiology.May-Treanor was born in Los Angeles but spent her high school years in Costa Mesa where she attended Newport Harbor High School. She grew up alongside her two brothers Brack and Scott. Her cousin is tennis Olympian Taylor Dent. When she's not training, she is the assistant coach at Irvine Valley Junior College. May-Treanor currently splits time between Long Beach, Calif. and Coral Springs, Fla. with her new husband Florida Marlins catcher Matt Treanor. She enjoys playing with her boxers Gruden and Boogie.
