Contrary to popular belief, Black Rap is not about alienating races. Black Rap is not even referring to ethnicity. In fact the name was simply inspired by the classic jazz label, "Black Jazz." It started off as a t-shirt idea from one of the founding members of the crew, DJ Islamabad. Eventually the name and the logo just stuck and Big Jacks, Bozack Morris and DJ Islamabad grew attached to it.
"Why does it have to be black all the time? Don't you know hip-hop is universal now? Get with the times you racist!" Yeah Black Rap has heard it all. Rather than changing the name, it has been represented harder because Black Rap knew that real hip-hop heads wouldn't feel threatened by a simple name.
Regardless of what the name initially stood for, it's subversive nature could not be avoided. So it was used to its advantage, especially when the trio would rock parties with the heaviest in hip hop and funk records Toronto had ever heard. Gaining Black Rap a reputation of having some of the hottest obscure joints and knowing how to play them.
As the crew became more popular, they began to receive more attention from a wider audience. By then, Black Rap began to diversify their sound, and incorporate more genres of music. This prevented them from being pigeonholed and allowed them to gain attention from a greater audience. Good music is good music regardless of categorization. That was the turning point in the young career of Black Rap. DJ Islamabad left at that point due to creative differences, and Black Rap continued on as a duo, rocking some of the most memorable jams in the city.
Beyond the music, Black Rap has become known for their hustle. With their hunger grabbing the attention of their peers, they continue to strive to innovate the Toronto scene, and the hip-hop culture in general. The proper balance between business and art is of great importance to the crew and will always be maintained.
At the end of the day, no matter how much is accomplished, what keeps them having fun, level headed, and willing to strive further is the fact that they will always remain hip-hop fans.

BIG JACKS BIO

Busting onto the scene in the late 90s, Big Jacks (aka Jacksploitation) has been working hard to ensure whatever endeavour he's involved in becomes and remains a successful one. It wasn't till spring 2001, when Backroad Radio (105.5) first hit the Toronto airwaves, that people started to take notice of the movements of a young Jacks as a DJ. To this day, the founding member of the show, has been committed to producing the program each week, delivering only the best in new, classic, and forgotten hip hop gems to a devoted local and international audience.

2005 has seen Big Jacks further his involvement as a radio personality, take his duties to the next level, and broaden his horizons. March marked the debut of Mixtape Massacre (88.1), hosted by the big man himself. Alongside Linx & Taktiks, the trio won the opportunity to fill the shoes of their Saturday afternoon's predecessors (Fantastic Voyage, Powermove, Real Frequency). Ushering in a new era for Toronto and continuing the tradition the high profile slot is known for.

Through these radio shows, persistence, hard work, and hunger Big Jacks has rose from becoming not only a DJ that can be heard but seen. Being booked at a number of events around Toronto/GTA and beyond (New York City, Ottawa, Montreal, etc). Making various live appearances from concerts/clubs, to radio and television. Some of these past events include sharing the stage with artists such as: Masta Ace, Boot Camp, Talib Kweli, and many more. As well as making numerous television and radio appearances on: Much Music's Vibe and Da Mix, NBA XL, and WNYU 89.1's Halftime Show w/ DJ Eclipse.

This is only the beginning of the ball in motion. To Jacks the limitations for himself and Black Rap are endless, with many more goals to be reached and surpassed everyday.

BOZACK MORRIS BIO

It's hard to really define Bozack. Most would know him as the party rocker of Black Rap as he is well versed in rocking crowds, and has been doing so for the past eight years. His vocal abilities have captured the attention of many, and has been booked for events in Toronto, Hamilton, and New York. He has shared the stage with the likes of Little Brother, Talib Kweli, Saukrates, and DJ A-trak. He has held down the crowds from the rowdiest emcee competitions, to the most intimate formal gatherings. Many people also know him as one of the program directors and the main voice of "Backroad Radio," a hip hop radio show in Toronto that he shares with Big Jacks and Melizia.

What many don't know is that Bozack Morris also plays an integral background role. Beyond rocking crowds, he can be found organizing and promoting many of Black Rap's events, handling PR, accounting, maintaining and handling the website, and consulting. He also maintains Black Rap's identity by doing all of the graphic design for the company. On top of that, there are still a few other things he still plans to implement in Black Rap Inc. in the near future. Bozack hungers to continue to push the envelope on what Black Rap is. This is a constant endeavor because Bozack Morris and Black Rap are always evolving. But if you had to catagorize Bozack, one thing will always be sure; Bozack is Hip Hop.
