I'll bet living in a nudist colony takes all the fun out of Halloween.

My Interests

Poetry

Wait... I'm supposed to like more than that? Very well:

Books. One of my more indiscriminating passions... I just like to go to Barnes & Noble, or any other bookstore- chain or otherwise, sit in the floor and stare up lovingly at the books on the shelves. I love them all. Crisp and new, wonderful. Old, wrinkled, held together by duct tape & bubble gum with the pages fading a little because of the wear from well familiar fingers? Oh that is priceless. Give me a well loved book anyday. I treat my own like they'll break, careful not to bend the spine, but I will gladly open my arms and heart to any book that looks like it has seen the worse of times. I love that someone else loved it enough to wear it down.

Lotions & bath products. I love all things lotion. I get a lot of comments on my skin being soft (because.... I'm a fanatic!)

I love to dance. Nothing fancy or important, just regular, in the club, moving my body to the music around me. I love it. When I was about 8, I asked one of my mom's boyfriends how to dance. He said something to the point of "just do what feels right". I try to use the same approach to everything, but I definitely achieve it when I dance. Let the hips to the talking!

Interesting jewerly. My favorite ring is green amber with a small crack of orange in it. It's beautiful. My favorite bracelet was a Christmas present from my 6 year old little brother. He bought it himself.

Dragons and watching videos about how they might have actually existed at some point. Heck, there might still be a dinosaur in the Congo. I love that we can still be surprised by our world.

The history channel but not the science channel, the science channel insists the world is ending weekly.

Good deeds. I want my life to be meaningful; the best way to achieve that is to help someone elses life be a little brighter.

I'd like to meet:

Small Print

She doesn't think you see
a corner, the odd shape
of just her left breast. Edges
do not bother her.
This piece of paper

slid inside her bra. Arranged.
She doesn't think you see

when she is folded and disincluded.
She isn't really there, or here,
stares up and counts ceiling tiles.

But there is this poem, warm against her skin
under lace, cotton and then
vinyl. Not rained on,
dropped or spilled on,

kept.

She's forgotten it's there. She just
stands still in the aisle, almost touching you,
and doesn't think you notice
her lips tingle or heart rate change.

Movies:

It's a bird... It's a plane...

Actually... it might just be a bird...

Television:

I don't really watch much television. If I am actually home, I tend to be on the internet. Not to mention all the good shows come on while I am in class from 5pm-10:45pm Mon-Thurs. However, the satellite tapes certain things for me. Along with CMT Crossroads that was Bon Jovi and Sugarland. I adore Bon Jovi.
But I do watch a few things. I have to see One Tree Hill. I watched it by accident toward the end of the first season, or rather out of sheer boredom, and have been hooked ever since! I also have to watch Gilmore Girls. I've been watching that one since the beginning. Sometimes I catch Related as well, which is new but I like it enough that I think I'll keep watching it. Oh! And the Medium. Kinda creepy at times.
On a not so regular basis, I'll watch Law & Order, any of them, when it's conveniant. Also Judging Amy and things like that. I love watching the history channel and the discovery channel, I even cheat and occasionally watch the science channel. I'm still not over that moon ordeal though.

Books:

Everything! I've read every single Jennifer Weiner book that there is. One of the best things about her is that she doesn't tell the same story over and over (aka Tami Hoag). "Good in Bed" is highly recommendable.
Anne McCaffrey is one of the best too. Her Pern series is habit forming but her "The Ship Who.." series is likely better. I'm not into the Acorna books though. She keeps on and on and on writing them, however.
Stephen R. Donaldson's "The Mirror of Her Dreams" and "A Man Rides Through" are terrific. It isn't as easy to get into, but well worth it in the end. You really care about the characters before the end of the first book.
Roger Zelazny's "The Chronicles of Amber" will really make your imagination go all over the place. As will David Eddings' Belgaraid and Mallorean. Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett (I LOVE "Small Gods") co-wrote a book together. "Good Omens" is hilarious. The book I'm currently reading, Gaiman's "Star Dust" is beautifully written. Granted, I don't get to focus on it very often. Everytime I read even a few pages of it I remind myself that I have a ton of books I should be reading for school. So far, though, I would highly recommend it!
Poetry wise, which is always my favorite wise, I adore Sharon Olds. Mostly for "The Father" though. The entire volume of poetry is about her father dying. It's gorgeous. Anne Carson's "The Beauty of the Husband" is also very insightful. I read that one over and over again.
Listing books I love and coming up for different adjectives for each starts to sound... redundant! There is so much more that I should have added. I'll add more later.

Heroes:

God. The whole created everything and whatnot. That is pretty amazing, whether you think Anselm has two brain cells to rub together or not. I really don't want to reason everything out. Some things should be impossible to prove. Sometimes, you just have to have faith that what your heart tells you (how trite is that wording?) is true. I know there is a God because I've felt him and I've seen the proof around me. There is one and He is freakin' awesome
My mom for getting over her drug addiction and getting rid of the creep that would always come back like a stray cat. For being a single mother the majority of my life. For teaching me that I can be my own person separate from someone else through example. For not always knowing the answers.
My dad for 4 years of sobriety. He was always my hero when I was a little girl. He'd come in and rescue me, saving the day and conquering all those who committed evils against his little girl. Then I grew up. I still love him though and, now that I am getting older, he is my hero again.
My brother for being brave enough and selfless enough to spend a year of his life in Iraq. For signing up for the army to begin with. For laughing at me when, on my 21st birthday, I backed my car into his Trans Am. I was so scared and worried that he'd be mad at me, I was to the point of tears, and all he did was start laughing.
Heather for being brave enough to follow love...
...and Brian for making me want to take that leap. Yeah, the landing wasn't easy and it was hard to get through, but I don't think I'll ever regret the jumping. There are some people you'll love for the rest of your life, even if you remember how much it hurt to see that things wouldn't work out. Brian is one of those sorts. I'll never forget my first muse.
Alex for showing me what true passion is, because Lord knows the boy breathes it in each and every day. You don't need to have blood when you have that much life pulsing through you.
And Beyond, for agreeing with me when I am being an idiot. Ouch, but necessary.
Jesse for being like a second father to me and one of the most phenomenal poets (easily the best poet I know personally). He's put up with me since I was 16 and clueless. You have to see something truly heroic in that!
My stepmother for being my friend.
So many teachers/professors that I can't list them right now. I'm lucky to have amazing people in my life.
