About Me

Originally out of Short Beach, a neighborhood in Branford, CT, the band started out as a bunch of high school hockey players and friends calling themselves Half Step, and made their first demo tape in a garage in the summer of '99 before the world was supposed to end with Y2K. The band went from high school to college where they moved to Coventry, CT to set up shop in a house by the lake where they attended UConn and Eastern CT State University. During this stint they played numerous venues, parties, spring weekends, road races, and realized that there was another northeast band using the name Half Step, so the new name became dReAmSwell. The capital letters R, A, and S are symbolizing the band's tribute to the Rastafari cultural movement, religion, and it's leaders. Also, the band is comprised of some northeast surfers who love to ride the dream swells that roll into the beaches of the northeast (especially around hurricane season). The dream of playing in a band, getting paid for doing so, and enlightening the ears of our listeners has always been prevalent, and so our hope is that this dream, with your help, will continue to swell and swell. The band had a weekly gig at Ted's Bar on UConn's campus where they made many new friends and fans as they worked the campus scene. The band has opened up for such names as RAQ, the Zen Tricksters, Vince Welnick (formerly of the Grateful Dead and the Tubes), The Breakfast. dReAmSwell has always been comprised of self-taught musicians, and has had somewhat of a come and go lineup through the years. We'll do anything from solo act, duet, trio, to quartet, be it acoustic or electric. The Brothers Donovan is generally known to be Frank and Ken doing a guitar and bass acoustic duet.
