Five Reasons Why Swing Won't Die
1. DANCE. Once people discover the exhilaration of wild, swing partner-dancing, they're not going to want to just give it up.
2. SOCIAL. Swing-dancing has become the way to meet people. Rock shows were too loud, and what else is there? (Not want ads, please!)
3. ART. Partner-dancing is a uniquely human, individualistic art form. Many people who lacked a creative outlet now have one.
4. (THE THRILL OF) DRESSING-UP. Yet another creative medium is reclaimed as people turn themselves into vintage "works of art."
5. MUSIC = HAPPINESS. With the swing movement as we nervously enter the 21st Century, people are identifying and reclaiming the best of their Twentieth Century American "roots" heritage, including a huge "new" domain of aural pleasure (classic swing songs with exceptional musicianship), no drugs required.
It's totally true. Viva Swing!
I love Writing, Reading, Movies, TV, My Friends, Music, Sleep, Nature and Life. I love my boyfriend, Steve Barnhart. I Swing Dance and...as you can kinda tell by looking at my page, LIVE FOR IT. Best Scene to ever come into my life. I'm compassionate, caring, a good Ear and human. That means I don't hate people for silly reasons...unless I'm driving, in which case, I hate every one. ;)
I love all things random and silly. Jam, Cheese, Yellow BBQ's on the side of the Freeway. And I don't think there is anything wrong with saying there are a lot of beautiful people in the world so if you hear me talking about any number of hot men...well...there are MANY.
I love taking pictures of and for my friends. Poke around MySpace, you'll see a lot of my shots. It makes me very happy. :)
And...um...there's more. There's always more. Ask me if I can think of any of it...I really can't. :D
I'd like to meet:
I think it's funny when friends blackmail/guilt me into putting them in my Top 8. I'm looking at you, Michelle. DEFLOWER.
I've already met most of my favorite Swing Bands. I've met them, smelled them, geeked it up with them, danced with them, ate Denny's with them, clapped for them, hugged them, gotten pictures, and been touched by the utter graciousness and kindness that they have all shown me. That being said...I wanna see and meet The Squirrel Nut Zippers. It's my dream to see ANYONE perform "The Ghost of Stephen Foster" live.
Oh...and Damian Lewis...mmmm, Ginger...but those I'd like to have a chance to meet? Anyone. Friends, new, old, lost, etc. Any one who's interested in me, I'll be interested back. If you're a band or some fool looking for 90,000 friends, don't bother with me. I won't just be another face.
THE SQUIRREL JOKE!

Movies:
Let me put it this way...if it's a movie and not scary, bloody, or stupid in a bad way, I've seen it, and most likely, loved it. There were so many great one's in '05 that I can't even begin to write them all down. So just trust that if your favorite movie isn't on the list below, written about a year ago...I enjoyed it. I'm such a movie buff. It's sick. I have no life.
And before you ask, no I've not seen Napoleon Dynamite, and I won't. And no amount of you fighting me over it will change my feelings...I'm not going to see it. Save your breath and let's talk about a far batter Indie film, Garden State.
Lord of the Rings, is my favorite single 9-12 hour movie, EVER. And I have watched them all back to back. Let's play LotR Trivial Pursuit...come on, challange me. I'm a geek queen. I'll take you down. ;)
Band of Brothers (A mini series, I know, but it has the scope of a movie. See Below.), About a Boy, Beauty and the Beast, Love Actually, Harry Potter 1 & 3 (2 was good only for Kenneth Branagh), The Green Mile (I'm watching now), Pirates of the Carribbean, Captain Ron, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. BASEketball, Wayne's World, Super Troopers, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, I can quote The Blues Brothers till I'm sick, Dreamcatcher is great just for how bad it is. Mmm, Ginger!
And I think everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, should watch, love, and quote Mystery Science Theater 3000. Endlessly. Tom Servo for Congress! Below is a list of his supporters.

Television:
Scrubs, The West Wing before Season 5. The X-Files before Season 8. ER. Will & Grace. Fraiser. That 70's Show. CBS Sunder Morning (That's right.) All 3 Law & Orders, with it's sexy men. Las Vegas. CSI: Vegas, cause the other two suck. South Park when I can catch it, and Drawn Together. I love Best Week Ever. Lost is amazing but makes me angry. Invader Zim, baby. I like Letterman over Leno, and Conan is simply the best. I love The Food Network. Firefly is the most awesome show, ever. Damn you, Fox, for kicking it off the air! *shakes fist* And there are many more. I'm a bit of a TV whore.
I LOVE AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL!!! It's fierce, Bitches.
Band of Brothers may very well be the greatest thing to ever come out of a TV or the minds of man ever. Like, EVER. It's beautiful, it's...it's awe inspiring and hopeful. It's honest, real, and brave. If you haven't seen it, you must, and be amazed by these very real and very brave men. (And the hot actors who play them...I'm such a fan girl.)
Books:
I love reading. And I do it, a lot. I read allllll sorts of books. Check out 'Shopgirl' by Steve Martin and The Thursday Next series from Jasper Fforde. His books are the funniest, most charming, and original stories I've EVER come across. But the odd thing is, I read so much that I forget what I read and thus have a hard time recommending books. Amie Bender's 'The Girl in the Flammable Skirt' is amazing. 'Love in the Time of Cholera' stunning. Alan Cumming's 'Tommy's Tale' is...holy crap...HOT. And, of course...
Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. I can recite my favorite passage from the book by heart. It's about Treebeard's eyes. And it's gorgeous. I love that man and his worlds that make me cry so.
Harry Potter and his adventures too...though I am not sure I can watch the end of Movie 6. *lip quivers* J.K. Rowling is brilliant and EVIL. I want to make people react like she can one day...I want people to hate and love my stories, and me, all while crying and laughing.
And I totally learned to read from Calvin & Hobbes and The Far Side. Got my sense of humor from there as well. Those comics still crack me up to this day, and will never be old. If you don't know what those two comic's are...then...well...you suck.

What Does Your Birth Date Mean?
AWESOME! :) Oh, the Writer in me.
Would you think ill of me if I said my own work? I mean, I live in my stories, I know them better then any one. I love my characters, they are my children...
Ok, that's a little weird...
Heroes:
Teachers. It's a self-less job, and people like DJ, Gina, The Wang, Mr. Paine, LE and Mrs. Sondrini really make you admire the task they take on. And when a teacher has to stop teaching, they loose a part of themselves. And yet, when you watch a great teacher doing their job, they are never more alive then that moment when they are in front of a class.
Those who had DJ know what I mean. You saw it in his brown eyes, and it's a shame that it can no longer be. I don't know who hurts more at the prospect of him not teaching...him, or the students who haven't had him make math fun yet. I miss him with ever fiber of my being.
