Born Joshua Anthony Wardell on December 8th, 1989 in Las Vegas, NV, D-Skyz moved to the UK at a young age and began to rhyme around age 14.
A patron of the stage from various punk, rock and metal bands, he always found an underlying love for Hip-Hop and always encouraged his bands to create music combining his musical loves. Unfortunately, none of the bands amounted to much and he went solo in March 2008.
It started off as a joke in his college recording studio, just to see if it was possible and if he sounded any good. The resulting positive feedback spurred him on to record more of his own work.
College work, exams and generally laziness meant that the music was never taken that seriously and always came second to other endeavors.
In January 2009, however, that all changed. Life-long friend and guitarist in the mighty What The Funk, Ash Parkinson received some beat making software and began work on 'What Is This?.' It was clear big things would come of their work together...
The name D-Skyz comes from the Disguise that is Hip-Hop and music in general. Think of any rapper you know. No matter how 'real' they claim to be, they will never truly be themselves. Eminem is not Marshall when he raps. 50 Cent is not Curtis. Mos Def is not Dante. Even MCs using their own names like Talib Kweli are not their true selves when they take to the stage or spit on a mic. And why should they be? All music is such a powerful and magical force that a single person cannot possibly be expected to hold that kind of power in themselves. It is about the identity, it is about the idea, it is about the ideals of a person, channeled through the music. The next time you call a rapper 'Fake', think about what you're saying. Because you sound like a fucking idiot.
Believe what you heard, D-Skyz is taking over.
