Turning Page was founded in the beginning of the year 2000, when four friends and music-loving maniacs - Tomi, Arska, Lari and Jani - joined their musical expertise and visions to deliver the ultimate rock experience to anyone who happens to hear them. All the guys had played in several bands before with music style ranging from pop to progressive metal. It was about the time to “turn the pageâ€, if you happen to think where the name for the band came from.
Their first EP “Last Lines†was released in April 2000, including five stone-cold rock songs with some progressive elements too. After only four months of playing together, the guys had already developed the Turning Page sound to remember. The first track of the EP “My Joy & Destruction†was the first Turning Page song to be played in the radio, when RadioMafia (currently YleX) played it on their “UpTeekki†program. The full track listing of “Last Lines†(recorded, mixed & mastered at Carelian Corner Studio) was:
1. Joy & Destruction
2. Dreamer
3. May I go now?
4. Confrontation
5. Last Lines
After “Last Linesâ€, the first gigs of Turning Page were to follow. After playing their first show ever for the students of Myllykoski high school in June 2000, they were selected for the line-up of Koria-Roll Rock Festival in July 2000. It was up to Turning Page to warm up the audience for Kemopetrol with a stunning show and they did succeed, indeed.
TP went back to studio in the next autumn to record their second EP “Balancing between love & hateâ€, which was released in February 2001. This EP was packed with lighter sounds and more of a pop music, some of the songs with acoustic guitars. Although there were some fine tunes to play live even today with a rockier groove, this pop style wasn’t actually Turning Page’s cup of tea. The full track listing of “Balancing Between Love & Hate†(recorded and mixed at Carelian Corner studio, mastered at Finnvox) was:
1. 2 late
2. The destiny of the outermost
3. The big dipper
4. Emotions die hard
5. New chapter
After the recordings, Simo “Simon Echo†Ekholm joined Turning Page as a keyboard player and the band played several shows with him before the next Carelian Corner studio session, which was in the summer of 2001. Turning Page recorded their single “Everything I wantâ€, containing three rock songs all of them rockin’ like hell. Read the review of the single here The track listing was (recorded and mixed at Carelian Corner studio, mastered at CD-Linja):
1. Everything I want
2. Inside us
3. Living in a lie
After “Everything I wantâ€, TP was really on the edge of hitting big time with a sold-out Rytmi-Katti show in Kouvola, a documentary filmed for MoonTV, dozens of gigs around Finland, a music video filmed at an old coal power plant in Helsinki and – last but definitely not the least – Anssi Kippo, the multi-talented music producer and recording & mixing engineer from Lappeenranta, laying his eyes on the band. Turning Page spent several days in Anssi’s Astia Studio in April 2002 recording the songs “Everything I wantâ€, “Inside Us†and “At any price†– the songs you are now listening to.
With these songs the hopes were high for a real breakthrough…… but nothing happened. This was the main reason the guys decided to take a “short†break of Turning Page – the break you are now witnessing to end. Indeed, Turning Page is coming back, bigger and better than ever, louder than hell!
More gigs, music, pictures and other stuff to follow, so stay tuned....The pages are turning…
