Support Network Inc. a 501(c) 3, non-profit charitable organization, was founded in 1982 to support the community’s most valued treasures -- its children.
Support Network, Inc.’s dedication, commitment and perseverance on behalf of both critically ill newborns and disadvantaged, gifted children have saved and enriched the lives of hundreds of thousands of New York City’s next generation.
It was the startling statistics on neonatal mortality rates within the minority community that underscored the urgency for the organization to take action to help support health initiatives for babies with low birth weights. The Support Network, Inc.’s greatest accomplishment to date is making Harlem Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit the only facility in New York City with state-of-the-art, life saving equipment for infants.
In 1992, The Support Network, Inc. founded the Minority Scholarship Fund. The fund was created to provide gifted, minority children with the opportunity to prepare for today’s competitive society, by giving them the opportunity to attend some of the city’s most prestigious private elementary schools. Recognizing that scholarships are traditionally provided for high school and college students, Support Network, Inc. realized the necessity of providing the best opportunities in early childhood education.
Since its beginning, The Support Network, Inc.’s two flagship programs have raised nearly $1million. The organization has also donated over $47,500.00 to the Cancer Control Center of Harlem and more than $10,000.00 toward the construction of an AIDS treatment clinic for mothers and their babies.
The Support Network, Inc., comprised of a group of dedicated professional Black women, has contributed to other worthy community causes including, the United Negro College Fund, Inc.; The March of Dimes; The Black Tennis and Sports Foundation, Inc. and The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.
