Eric Lindley, trained in classical and experimental traditions of art music, has had work performed across North America and Europe, including at Juliard and the Royal College of Music, but refuses-or-fails to abandon his kind of electronic art-folk that he writes, performs and mixes on his own for the most part. He's played through the U.S., at venues like the Smell in Los Angeles, and the Knitting Factory and Pianos in NYC, playing on bills with similarly ethic, if not entirely identical bands as Xiu-xiu, Mt. Eerie, and Lucky Dragons.
The music, as such, though often spare and fragile on the surface, sometimes betrays a challenging harmonic and textural complexity under more folk-influenced currents, while the lyrics bear evidence of Eric's literary pedigree, as a published author—which lies somewhere between politically motivated L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E poetry and more absurd, humorous/bleak contemporary lit. (Also worth mentioning is the semantic play in the lyrics, which hinge on his current job—and field of study—in an experimental linguistics lab.)
Oh, and he also makes and exhibits biofeedback participatory artwork, puppet musicals, theatrical and movie scores, and photography, some of which has been shown at or in conjunction with MOCA Los Angeles, the Santa Monica Museum of Art, and the New York Museum of Natural History.
He's recorded one album released in 2006 as "nightcat!", and will release an EP and another full-length album in Winter 2009/10.
