About Me

~About Cathy~
Cathy Clayton began her studies of harp and piano at an early age. Her college studies included both music and science. In 1990, she received a B.S. in biology from the University of Utah. Cathy then pursued a degree in respiratory therapy and has worked as a respiratory therapist since 1993. In addition to her love of science, Cathy’s love of music led her to graduate with a B.A. in music.
Following graduation, Cathy began studying harp with Dr. Carrol McLaughlin and has continued to study privately with her distinguished teacher for the past 14 years. In 2000, Cathy received her M.A. in musicology from the University of Utah.
As a professional harpist, she has performed throughout Utah, Arizona, and Northern California, including numerous performances for the Utah Governor’s Mansion during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. After spending three years teaching music theory and history at Salt Lake Community College, Cathy decided to continue her advanced studies in music.
She later held a teaching fellowship at the University of California at Davis, while pursuing her doctorate in musicology. She transfered to the University of Arizona where she received her doctorate in Harp Performance. While at the U of A, she was an active part of HarpFusion, which included touring, recording, performing, and arranging classical, popular, and even jazz music.
