Hey I'm JON Q and I am a music producer, performer. working to make heads nod and smile for a while. Currently I've been creating and recording with a group of talented musicians/ vocalists called "THE EARTHTONE CREW" (the spearhead act for the venture Earthtone Music Group, an independent record label based in Richmond, VA). I am also a working on my degree in advertising at Virginia Commonwealth University."Before you were born Jonathan your mother used to rock in her chair with you in her belly to all of our favorite tunes", said my father to me a couple weeks ago. He grew up with the super fresh Donna Summers, Santa Esmeralda, The Beegee's, and Chic - heart of the disco. My Mother was a big fan of the Beatles and Michael Jackson. In kindergarten I began Beatboxing as The I recognized it through the Police Academy films my Grandmother used to rent for me. The Legendary Sgt. Larvell Jones (Michael Winslow!!!!!!!). I speak to many other Beatbox performers that reflect a generally shared understanding; we began beatboxing before we even knew what to call it.Around the same time I was really excited by the backwards tendencies of one of Hip Hop's first youth duo's: Kriss Kross, as "Jump Jump" became a crazy popular song at my neighborhood summer rec program. I then began searching for all references of hip hop culture in the normal suburban family's diet of entertainment, but especially in film (Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). I began to believe in my special talent from their on and focused on honing the natural ability by finding as many musical and theatrical opportunities that came my way. In middle school My music arts teachers took a strong notice to my vocal abilities and placed me in their special school ensembles at a young age, winning numerous competions for our performance. I also played snare drum with my school orchestra. I attended a Military High School where I began to perform for the marching band, and Theatre Dept.'s. By my Junior year i was being accepted to perform across the east coast as a drum major and percussionist winning awards and much praise from my professors as the best drum major in school history. As an actor I won praise for my role as Mr. Paravicini in Agatha Cristie's "The Mousetrap" and was granted the best actor award of the region for my role as Walter Hollander in Woody Allen's "Don't Drink the Water". After High School I began College at Virginia Commonwealth University were I found out about music production and arrangement programs like FL Studio and Cubase. FROM THAT POINT I WAS HOOKED. I became a hermit, always behind my dell laptop making beats as fast as I could, however i would never show them to any large crowd. I also began grabbing the attention of local Emcee's for my ability as a beatboxer. I began to perform at local shows with acts from D.C. to Richmond like The Echoboomers, RPM (PANACEA) and Flex Mathews and sharing the stage with artist like Mr. Lif, Little Brother, and 2 Mex from the Visionaries. At a show I was hosting at VCU I met Corey Smith and Brad O (Score One for the Little Guy) and a year later began performing with them as a beatboxer and cohort producer for their upcoming album. Through a show with Score One I met a skinny white boy with some wow appeal, Brad Doggett who asked me to record some youtube footage with him. Not long afterwards did we met up with the run-on super vocalist Jay R&B and began performing altogether as the Earthtone Crew. I'm now working on a project comprising of Beatbox, vocal and production of my self and a few collaborative efforts from my E.T. Crew (phone home boyyee!) for a JON Q record. "nu skin" is created by the systematic gains in perception and color. the soil and stain are reflection of my real skin. not white skin or black but constantly getting darker.
