Montezuma grows out in february 2005 from the instrumental basis of the italian post hardcore band Slight: Guccio (guitars), Ale (bass) and Pani (drums).
Keen of playing together again, we met in our practice room to bring life to a new project, without guidelines, simply giving free expression to our ideas, passions and the will to put us at stake.
Some months later we felt the need of a new polyhedral person to give support where six hands were not enough; after leaving his band, Carlo decided to join us.
Carlo inserted his ideas and guitar’s lines, and we gave a new shape to the songs: complex structures between scratched post rock riffs, eclectic distorted bass lines and nearly progressive drums all together with a touch of indie, grunge and post hardcore.
With well-defined songs, we started searching for a voice… but after some vain attempts with singers, we decided to keep playing mainly instrumental, with Guccio singing few songs… and this meant a beautiful new beginning.
It has been hard to give the band a name… Montezuma is the name of the collective running the practice room we play in… Montezuma is something representing most of the youngsters of our quarter.
Montezuma is where we were born, where we have grown, where we played for the first time… in the end we ourselves are Montezuma.
Now we are recording 6 songs and we finally started to play gigs again!
