About Me

FIRSTLY, LET ME SAY.... I'M THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE EVOLUTION-X ARE BACK TOGETHER AND GIGGING! -----------------------------OK, about me ------I'm the sort of age where people think about taking it easy and leaving the loony stuff to "the kids", but most folks who know me will tell you I'm 6 years old and will remain so until I die aged 198!, Miraculously, I still have my own hair, teeth and none of the diseases of old folk have yet set in yet, apart from selective deafness and not suffering fools...........................Started playing guitar at 13 years old, mainly folk and pop stuff, and was pressganged into playing my first gig by an older mate at the age of 14. It was downhill all the way from there .. 10 years, six of which were in a successful Country band, playing guitar, mandolin, banjo, and occasional bass, the overwhelming urge to play rock took over - a local band on the pro circuit needed a bass player, and I gave it a go........................... It took no time to realise that bass was truly my instrument, and the challenge of playing well, both in terms of the music and performance is still with me to this day..... For me too many bass players are "musical planks" - just stand there and play - it may be perfect music, but hell, it's BORING!.......................In all I've worked as a musician for 38 years, touring, gigging and recording, (my last band played an average of 8 gigs a month for 15 years - some of the best times I've had, plus I was playing various sessions and "depping")................. I now play as often as I can, and I'm always looking for something that inspires me to write and play, be it another band, another song, something that happens in my life - whatever keeps the fire burning..................................................... ............................................................ ................... I'm currently involved in a new band , EVOLUTION-X, and gigging with some of the best, and my favourite musicians I've played with in the last few years, playing Rock / Metal and original music - and things are sounding and going great!.............The song "Little White Lies" is one we've improved and updated, and are playing live........................................................ ........... ............................................................ ...................... The music on here is all stuff I've written entirely or written the music and teamed up for lyric writing, and performed over the years, with various friends, aquaintences and ne'er do wells. My lyrics all come from real - life experiences, either a twisted interpretation or just "as it was". Some of the recording quality is pretty dire, no remixes, etc, as are some of the performances, not really how I'd liked to have them presented, although there's a kind of basic rawness there that I like, but hey, music's supposed to be fun isn't it?.......... I played bass, some of the guitars, and did some backing vocals, so listen for the worst bits, and that'll be me!.................... The gear I use includes: Ashdown 300W Combo, two custom 5-string basses, Fender Precision bass, Beyer Dynamic radio system, Zoom Bass multi FX, Behringer pre-amp boost, Fender electric / acoustic 6 string, the legendary "Parts bin special" guitar, AKG mic...........Although I'm happy with my sound, having spent years "getting it there", I never stop looking for "that elusive bit more" - most players will know what I mean........................................................ ............................Outside music, my passions are first and foremost, my kids, Adam, Carrie, Kyle, Ethan and Jack (The Terrible twins), and Taryn.......... I've recently become a grandfather, Carrie giving birth to a baby boy, Callum..............Next on the list come trikes, (founder Member of the UK Chapter of Brothers of the Third Wheel, a Worldwide "Family Of Trikers") - I spend a good proportion of the summer months riding and rallying................... ..........Another passion for me is aviation, particularly vintage warbirds, but if it flies, I love it! .................... On the more serious and public spirited side, I've been a Governor at my local Junior School for 15 years, and Vice Chair for 5 of those, and also a Student Mentor for Year 10 pupils at the local Secondary School, spent a while working as Project Co-Ordinator for MENCAP.....I'm a firm believer that EVERYONE should make a contribution to society, however small.

Band Members: Me!!!
Influences: LYNYRD SKYNYRD, FREE, BAD Co., anything that's DA BLUES, BILLY SHEEHAN, STEViE, (a bloke and a mandolin), ALVIN LEE/ TYA, Deep Purple, (But only with the great Ritchie Blackmore), Steve Earle, Garth Brooks, Bob Seeger, Bruce Springsteen, Black Sabbath / Ozzy, Metallica, Judas Priest , ZZ Top, Wishbone Ash, Aerosmith, Thin Lizzy, "The Mighty" QUO!!!, "The even Mightier" MOTORHEAD!!!! Iron Maiden, The Blues Brothers, Folk, Classical, Soul, old R'n'B, Reggae - anything that takes my fancy. In truth I could carry the list on for pages!..................I hate with a passion modern "R n B", House, Garage, Jungle, Dance, Trance or (C)rap!!!!! - not a lot of talent involved there, more "stick to the formula and let the hype work on the mindless"..........Any pub, club, disco or car sound system that plays stuff that goes "Duff Duff, Duff,Duff, Duff, Duff, Duff......should be nuked, and their owners taken away and be forced to listen to Kate Bush, wailing away like a cat with it's knackers stuck in a mangle, 24 / 7 for the rest of their pathetic lives........... Also those "musicians" who are "Glory hunters", acting and telling people how superior they are to others and giving it "My band's better than your band" (I find them hilariously funny and sad at the same time, especially the ones who stand there with their arms folded, huffing away, I like to ask them if they're so good, why is it I'm gigging and they're not - usually REALLY pisses them off!) ..........To me ANYONE who has the bottle to get up and play live is a hero and should be applauded for having the guts to do so - so many people would give their last breath to be able to play onstage for even a minute. APPRECIATE THE FACT - GET A LIFE, AND TO QUOTE FRANK ZAPPA (God bless him), "SHADDUP AND PLAY YOUR GUITAR"!!! **************KEEP MUSIC LIVE!**KEEP MUSIC LIVE!**KEEP MUSIC LIVE!**KEEP MUSIC LIVE!***************My Brothers and Sisters in BROTHERS of the THIRD WHEEL, Wordwide, Trikes, Beer, Bikes, Rallying, Partying, Meeting like-minded people, (Or any people, for that matter - just so long as they amuse or interest me, and love life), Beer, Monty Python, Beer, Bad News, Spinal Tap, The Young Ones, Bottom, "The Pub Landlord", Bill Bailey, Spike Milligan... Anything or anyone that makes me laugh .........And I laugh a lot!!.........Did I mention beer??
Sounds Like: Take everything I like and have ever heard, put it in a blender for a few years, lightly sautee in beer, and serve loud.
