Black Rain

About Me

As a collaborative group, they have written several hundred songs. One of the band's most noted performances took place at the California Mid-State Fair in August, 1993, where they opened up for the Damn Yankees, featuring Ted Nugent and Tommy Shaw. Other major California venues have included The Roxy on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, Dream Street in San Diego; Marquee in Westminster and the SLO Brew Company in San Luis Obispo. Black Rain's high energy live performances and area radio play have created an ever increasing consumer demand for their recorded music. Regional Wherehouse record stores sold through inventories of the band's CD titled "Black Rain". Black Rain's unique sound has been described as Rock with a Blues tinge. BLACK RAIN - BLACK RAIN (Metal Mayhem) REVIEWAnother release that surprised me was the debut album from California rockers Black Rain who remind me of Heaven's Edge, Firehouse and Adriangale amongst others.Opening song 'Run' is a typical melodic rocker like Heaven's Edge, the chorus is catchy and had this been released in the eighties then chances are the band would have had a semi hit at least. Next is 'Don't Turn Away'. This song is fantastic pure melodic rock, a little like Firehouse, brilliant chorus. Singer Ty Christensen has a great voice which makes the songs shine.A ballad is next, it's called 'One Chance' and is fantastic, once again this very much like Firehouse and also Bon Jovi, a nice relaxing dreamy ballad for all you lovers out there. Another ballad is 'To Live On' that has a similar vibe to say Firehouse's 'Don't Treat Me Bad', not so much in the chorus, but more in the musical structure that is based around acoustic guitars. Ty really sounds like Jon Bon Jovi on this song.'Time' continues this style and good have been on Bon Jovi's "These Days" album, whilst 'I Never Wanted' is also much more of the same. It's here that I started to tire of the slower material and needed some more rockers and we get it with the ass kicking 'Sculptured Love'. There is some cool guitar work from Galvan Steele on this track. 'Drift Away' is another glorious slab of melodic rock and another highlight on the album, simple and very effective.Guitars are let loose everywhere on 'Crazy Questions' which is highly addictive and like Firehouse. Then we slow down again for the predictable but rather good ballad called 'All Alone'. I find it amazing how amazing how much like Jon Bon Jovi Ty is, how about getting this band to record a full Bon Jovi tribute album Metal Mayhem? I would imagine it would be pretty cool, the guys got the voice just like Jaded Heart's Michael Bormann, imagine these two guys together doing a duet, wooo hooo.'Dyin' For The Cause' is another high octane hard rocker with an extra kick, and last song 'Yesterday' ends the album on a lazy balladic stroll that features harmonicas, very Poison style ballad. Black Rain surprised me with this release that is worth checking out.www.metalmayhem.com
