Tout Le Monde is a band whose music history is indeed rich. Led by Lead vocalist Kevin Harris, TLM is literally a Who's Who of session players, and star sidemen who have played with some of music's greatest bands. In the mid 1980's Kevin along with Tony Garnier decided to put together a band where they could play the music they loved . Blues, R&B, Soul/Rock and Roots classics. Kevin had come from San Francisco where he had earned a reputation as a jazz/blues singer and also had sung with some of the Bay Area's top blues, jazz, soul and rock bands, from his own Project Destiny to Joy of Cooking to Manteca as well as Santana. Tony had worked with all the top blues and rockabilly stars such as Asleep at the Wheel, Robert Gordon, Buster Poindexter and Bob Dylan. Kevin enlisted some other great musicians to fill out the heart of the band. Kevin Hupp on drums who had worked with Rick Derringer, Tommy "T-Bone " Stinson who was a well known blues, soul keyboardist and played for years with the great jazz singer Esther Phillips, Jeff Golub on guitar who later became the guitarist for Rod Stewart and later a star in his own rite on the smooth jazz circuit, Esther Blue was also a keyboardist and then finally Kevin approached his old friend from San Francisco, Cornelius Bumpus. Cornelius had played with the Doobie Brothers and was one of Kevin's closest friends. Later Cornelius became a member of Steely Dan. The band began to play at many of the top clubs in New York amd earned a justified following. At this point when Jeff Golub got the Rod Stewart gig, Kevin met a guitarist who's guitar style and beautiful soul impressed him so, he asked him to join the band. His name was Michael Hill. Michael had earned a repuation from playing with BB KING and his own band Michael Hill's Blues Mob . Soon after T-bone decided he could not commit to the band and recommended a keyboardist who became a backbone for the band, Rusty Cloud! Rusty had played with Southside Johnny and many soul greats as well as being part of the Springsteen clan With Rusty Tout le Monde continued to creatively grow and became a more cohesive unit. The band would rehearse and even record in Rusty's Chinatown basement studio refining their sound. As a result TLM became one New York's most sought after bands headlinig at top venues such as Manny's Car Wash, Le Bar Bat and Tramps to name a few.It was about this time that one of TLM'S founders, Tony Garnier got a call to further his career in a major way. Tony had been playing with Buster Poindexter along with Tout Le Monde and then Bob Dylan called. Tony continued to play with the band occasionally, but Dylan's touring schedule was very intense . as a result , Kevin took the advice of Kevin Hupp and saw this bass player who was playing with Ron Sunshine around town. His name was Dave Santos. David was an extraordinary musician who had played with everyone fomr Patti Austin, Crosby Stills and Nash, Billy Joel and even John Fogerty. As a result TLM sought to broaden their sound. Utilizing the versatility of Kevin Harris' vocals,TLM started performing Roots style music. Incorporating soul, funk, jazz and blues into their mix. The sound was intoxicating and TLM seemed on its way to bigger and better things. Around this time Michael Hill got a record deal with Alligator records , the reknowned blues label and began touring with his band, so one night while TLM was playing a gig at Le Bar Bat, Guitarist Drew ZIngg from Steely Dan and the Rock n' Soul Revue was in the audience. His reaction was simply," I have got to play with this band and that rhythm section". Drew Zingg became the Lead guitarist and TLM was once again in demand. During the height of their New York Popularity you could see TLM 2-3 times week around town at clubs, special parties and star studded benefit concerts. Band members came and left, touring with other bands, members had their problems with substance abuse , but the Tout Le Monde family stood by each other and they persevered and overcame obstacles. Cornelius Bumpus went on tour with Steely Dan , so Kevin Harris Brought in Lou Marini from The Blues Brothers and Saturday Night Live, Rusty Cloud went on tour for awhile and Kevin turned to another old friend, Delmar Brown. Delmar had been playing with his own band , but had earned his reputaion from playing with Sting. Delmar's contribution was phenomenaL as it broadened the performance style of the band. Combined with Elliott Randall from Steely Dan fame, Gerardo Velez, from Jimi Hendrix and Chic, Dave Santos , Kevin Hupp, Lou Marini, Julio Fernandez from Spyro Gyra TOUT LE MONDE played a special concert at the Muse to help world hunger. It was at this time that TLM began collaborating with Writer/Producer Mike Kissell. Mike's influence in TLM is significant, As he collaborated with band members and Kevin Harris to write songs for the band such as "Everybody Wants Heaven" (now called "Heaven"), TLM arranged and performed these songs live. The band continued to work consistently , always employing top musicians. Mark Berman became the keyboardist , replacing Rusty Cloud. Mark Had written music for Sex and the City and also played for Aretha Frankiln. Mark's jazz chops continued the keyboard legacy that began with T-Bone, to Rusty Cloud to Delmar Brown to Jeff Levine and Brian Charette. Other guitarists to play with TLM are blues great Danny Draher, Gil Parris and Larry Baeder. Drummers included Wally Gator and Victor Jones. The sax Legaqcy is just as formidable . Cornelius Bumpus, Lou Marini, Dan Ciparano, Dave Mann and now Craig Handy the great internationally known jazz player who also wrote and played the Cosby show theme...WOW!. In 2004 the Tout Le Monde Family suffered a tremendous loss with the death of co-founder Cornelius Bumpus His death spoke volumes to the type of person Cornelius was. While flying on a plane with his wife Linda to do a concert and clinic for kids, Cornelius suffered a heart attack. It was quite a loss for the Tout Le Monde family and TLM is still recovering, however Cornelius would want us to keep playing music as a band. The music you hear on this page is from the last concert TLM did together with Cornelius!! The band included Rusty Cloud keyboards/vocals, Dave Santos on Bass, Kevin Hupp on drums, Michael Hill on Guitar and vocals and lead vocalist mainstay, Kevin Harris. Our current lineup has been augmented by adding the great jazz/funk drummer, Mike Clark , jazz saxman Craig Handy, TLM Mainstays Michaek Hill on guitar, Dave Santos on bass and Kevin Harris as the Lead Vocalist. The names may change, but the game remains the same. Keeping the vibe alive through music!! We hope you enjoy our music and look for us, book us, we are back!!And as always, WE ARE TOUT LE MONDE , AND SO ARE YOU!! PEACE
