About Me

Layout made by Kat107 The Calhoun County Coalition for Inclusion (3Ci)
Planned Parenthood leads a coalition of churches, mental health professionals, educators, social service agencies and other community members in the effort to respond to the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth in Calhoun County. Our response to the identified risk areas is three-fold. First, our Faith Action Team will engage the community to a dialogue regarding lesbians, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Second, the Service Referral Team will develop an efficient and culturally sensitive support and referral system specific to the needs LGBT people. Third, the Youth Action Team will develop different strategies to start gay-straight alliances in schools and sustain gay-straight alliances for future members. We hope that with these strategies, we reduce the risk of LGBT people to bullying, substance abuse and even suicide. Furthermore, we hope that with this coalition, Calhoun County will truly become a more inclusive and diverse community.
On April 25, 2008, the Inclusion Coalition hosted a Breaking the Silence event. The Day of Silence is an annual day in honor of those who can not stand up for themselves- LGBT people and students who are bullied at school. The event, held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, was attended by over 70 members of the community.
