Space rock or psychedelic trance rock - whatever you want to call it, Silver Machine is a new band out of Asheville, NC which mixes tight funky grooves with wild experimentation. Featuring a 'Theremin' (a retro-futuristic electronic instrument from the 1920's), Silver Machine has a spooky, laptop-free, far-out sound alot like the old Science Fiction and Horror film soundtracks from the past. The band has a sound all of its own, while influenced by classic bands like Pink Floyd, and newer bands like Sound Tribe Sector Nine and Ozric Tentacles.
Silver Machine formed at the beginning of 2008 with members from 'The Royal We', 'Fuzzy Bucket' and 'Pond Rock'. The enthusiastic sound is a unique improvisational mix of spooky psychedelia, acid rock, and a healthy dose of funk. The idea is to create an atmosphere that encourages honest expression, fluid spontaniety and group elevation.
"As a band, we're always discussing the idea of elevating ourselves and our listeners or trying to take our music to a strange place where we haven't been before... keeping our music open to re-invention and open interpretation... we try to reach a different level of consciousness through music..."
Silver Machine is gaining momentum in Asheville, having played the Orange Peel for the Moog Foundation's "Mooged-Out" benefit featuring many of Asheville's talented performers, and appearances on Asheville's own URTV station airing through 2008. The band performed a blissful set at the Trinumeral Festival, and returned to Deerfields for a cosmic Late-night set at the Touch Samadhi Equinox Reunion. Silver Machine is performing at festivals, clubs, and parties where people want something out-of-the-ordinary.
