About Me

Enter Steve Liriks, a talented, crafty, and gifted individual . Steve Liriks is a California artist that was born into a musical family. His Dad, Herbert McMullen, was a music major at Kent State. Herbert McMullen was always involved in music throughout his career as a teacher and when his kids (Andrew "Andy Mackk" McMullen and Matthew "Steve Liriks" McMullen) were born he devoted his time to get them interested in music. Steve's brother, known as Andy Mackk, was influenced by his cousin and inherited the trade of rapping from him. This caused a chain reaction within the family as Steve Liriks also took upon the same trade. Steve would then begin rapping at the age of five with his older brother and cousins. When he became seven, he began to write his own rhymes and play the piano. Treating music as a hobby, his first true passion was to play Basketball and go to the NBA. At the age of fifteen, however, he realized his passion for Basketball had died out in exchange for Music. During this transition, Matthew McMullen would then create a persona named Steve Liriks. Matthew stated,
I came up with the name "Steve Liriks" in this way. The "Steve" in the name came from my middle name "Stephen" where Steve is short for Stephen. Also, my musical idol was Stevie Wonder, so you know i had to associate something with him. I was then watching Jason's Lyric at the same time as I was thinking about it and just thought, Hey that title is tight. So, I just used the short version of my middle name Stephen, thought about Jason's Lyric, and then replaced Jason with Steve. That's how I came up with Steve Liriks. Of course I had to change the letters around and such to make it sound decent, but hey a beautiful name came out from it. (laughs)
After taking on the name Steve Liriks, he began working on his first album, "Carpe Diem," in 2006.
Steve Liriks studied artists from Nas to Pink Floyd to take listeners on a musical journey for “Carpe Diem”. He produced and wrote the entire Carpe Diem album, as well demonstrated his talents of singing and rapping. All the way from the intro of the album to the last track, Steve Liriks had made a statement with the album that showed a presence of a new artist on the horizon. Steve Liriks remains eager to take on the world with his music sharing it with those who find interest.
