DOMINO EFFECT R.I.P

About Me

Domino Effect started as god knows what fucking name, some time in late 1996. As far as I remember, Alex met Andrew and they liked some of the same stuff, so they came to the terrible conclusion that they should inflict music upon others. Matthew later joined, I think Christian was with them first. Luke got involved once in a while by lending us his Marshall amps, Christian was the first vocalist, then the bassist. Lars played drums. Bert sorted them out with a rehearsal space which he was using for his own band, Attila's Y-Fronts, rented out by Uranienborg Ungdommsklubb (i.e. the local youth club), and hooked them up with space and some hash. Lars had left the band at that stage, so Bert offered to sub him until someone else turned up. Pavel was going to take his place but never got round to it, so Bert stayed. Christian left. Andrew and Matthew ended up being the guitarists. Alex took on the bass and vocal duties. Nils played a few gigs with them when Matthew went on holiday, Lars still lent them his drums. A lot of gigs were played at shool discos and at Youth Clubs, in true Norwegian tradition (yes, even fucking MAYHEM did this to start with).
AYF broke up, Bert and Matthew moved to the UK, closely followed by Alex. Andrew moved to Madrid and then the US and effectively left the band in 2000, after they recorded a second demo in Sussex. Step in Olly Hewitt, a friend of Jon's who was a mate of Alex's. The rest consisted of obscure gigs with obscure bands, ill-lit venues, and Alex disappearing into the bowels of the Rhythm Factory for about 70-90 hours a week, Olly to Brighton and then to London and Bert moved around the Souther UK. They only ended up in the same city again in 2004, 8 years after the band started. The treacle demo was recorded in 2007 and was intended to be released. However, the guys at Treacle Studio ended up losing all the original tracks. Cue a serious loss of momentum. That and another number of things killed the band. Some of our sickest gigs are listed here, if you ever came to one of them you should find it.
On Friday, September the 19th 2008, the laziest ever band from Oslo decided to call it quits. We had some good fucking laughs though. Something is going to rise form the ashes. When they have made up their minds as to what this will be, you will be duly informed!
To the people who played in the band over the years and who lent us equipment - Andrew, Christian, Matthew, Lars, Nils, Luke, Pavel, and all the people who lent us their backline all those years when we only had guitars, strings, leads and drumsticks, thank you so much.
The spirit of 90's Oslo popcore will live on! Peace and love,
Bert, Alex and Olly.
