About Me

oO-->ANTHONY BERNSTEIN is a freelance writer from Providence, RI. USA who is an active member of the SFPA (science fiction poetry assoc). Since ..05 he's contributed poems, tales, and even the odd book review to dozens of publications, most recently: Star Line, Illumen, PanGaia, Tales of the Talisman, Doorways, and Space and Time. His poem "Piece of Mind" from the pages of Realityfoil is nominated for the 2009 Rhysling Award for best speculative poem published in ..08. As such it will appear in the ..09 Rhysling Anthology out soon.Bernstein's also a skilled musician who helped form a few pro rock bands in the late 80s and 90s, writing many of the songs as the group's guitar player. ---------------------o--+>ALAN DAVEY came to the attention of heavy rock fans when he made his first appearance on bass with Hawkwind at the legendary Stonehenge Free Festival in 1984. He’d already made his mark, however, in his hometown of Ipswich England with Gunslinger, a riotous concoction of adrenaline-fuelled rock ‘n’ roll that owed a little to Davey’s admiration of Motorhead and a lot to his own vision of no nonsense power metal. As Hawkwind’s bass player from 1984 – 2007 (with a minor gap in the late 90s to deliver his unique twist of psychedelic Arabic-infused rock music, Bedouin), Alan Davey played on many of Hawkwind’s most highly regarded albums. In particular, his contribution to Hawkwind’s account of Michael Morcock's Elric mythos, The Chronicle of the Black Sword, and in his key-role in bringing Hawkwind’s space-rock into the 1990s, sounding as contemporary as Hell with the album Electric Tepee. Davey has written Hawkwind favourites like ‘L.S.D’, ‘Sputnik-Stan’, ‘Sword of the East’, ‘Wings’, and others. He’s clashed basses with Lemmy at the Reading Festival, lent his skills to the edgy, space-rock band Pre-Med, and released several acclaimed solo-albums.Now on the road with a new incarnation of Gunslinger, ‘The Bass Monster’ reigns supreme!---------------------------------------------------- --O0o~>JOHN PATTISON was diagnosed with cancer in 1975 and faced a psychological battle of monumental proportions, forcing him to confront his own mortality. Throughout that time Hawkwind was his inspiration, a source of escapism through their sound and lyrics. Eight years after his unexpected recovery he was told that his daughter has terminal leukaemia. Yet she too went into an inexplicable remission and went on to become a successful swimmer, representing Great Britain at the 1998 World Swimming Championships in New Zealand.Today, Pattison is a clinical nurse specialist caring for cancer patients with the same diseases that he and his daughter experienced. His book, A Love Affair with Cancer. http://www.johnwpattison.com is aimed at offering hope and inspiration to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis. He is also a current member of the road crew for Hawkwind, the band that inspired him through so many difficult times, he has even performed on stage with the legendary space rock outfit. Recently he has formed his own band 'Wind of Change' http://www.myspace.com/windofchange1 as a tribute to Hawkwind, but playing original space rock -- songs he himself has written. He was invited to narrate ‘Reality Foil’ by his friend and ex-Hawkwind bass monster Alan Davey during a Pike fishing trip.:*~*~*~*~*:.------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------0~~~>REALITYF OIL, A collection of dark speculative poems by Anthony Bernstein.
