About Me

Danyelle Rene’ Crawford, mostly known to others as Danny Rey, was born July 30, 1979 in Detroit, Michigan. Growing up in such a farfetched and crazy world, Danny still managed to figure out what her passion was. Her passion was singing. With no hesitation, her parents enrolled her in the Detroit Cultural Renaissance Center Show Choir, a choir and summer program created by a family member, slated for children who couldn’t afford expensive music camps. Attending the program for 7 years, she gained knowledge, training, and experience with music theory, choreography, stage presence, and performance techniques. This also included 7 years of extensive vocal training taught by some of Michigan’s top high school music instructor’s, in Opera, Jazz, Broadway, Contemporary, and Gospel music. One of her greatest accomplishments, was being one of the first, at age 12, to master the musical dynamics of Porgy and Bess’ musical masterpiece, Summertime. During her senior year, 1996-1997, at Cass Tech High School, she decided to join the school chorus and women’s vocal choir. Within that same year, the school choir won the award for best choir in the Michigan State Competition. In 1999, Danny gained an interest in Hip Hop and R&B. This led to her being discovered by Brandon “Squeeze” Smith, a producer out of Detroit, who has worked with a few of America’s most popular music stars. He saw the potential that Danny had, and thought it was worth a try. With his knowledge and experience in the industry, he helped Danny Rey to become one of Detroit, Michigan’s most sought out female local artists. This included working with long time friend, singer, producer and songwriter, James Terry who collaborated with Brandon to ensure that Danny Rey had the best musical career. They both wrote Danny’s first local single, “Flirt”, produced by Greg Charley. His credits include Whitney Houston, Mya, and then boy group, B2K. Through the next few years of hard work and consistency, Danny began to create a name for herself becoming a talented singer, songwriter, vocal coach, and producer. Her writing credits may not include anyone that the world may know, but she has written for some of Detroit’s best talent including some of her own family members. She has had several solo performances, one special performance included opening up for the old school group, Enchantment, and has participated in many choirs, talent shows and competitions. She has performed in cities such as Toledo, Orlando, Baltimore, and even her new home town, Atlanta, Georgia, and has worked with a host of top producers. Despite the trials and tribulations that she faced while in the industry of R&B, Danny Rey still held true to her personal promise to herself, saying that she was going to make some kind of change in her life. Little did she know, that change led her to fully singing Gospel music in 2005. Her motto is, “I Want Jesus to Walk with Me”, and he truly is doing just that. She currently attends St. Paul Lutheran Church in Decatur, Georgia, where her pastor is the Reverend Charles Newman. She is one of the worship leaders, coordinator for the Young Adult Ministry, future Youth Choir director, member of the Adult Choir, and the Worship Ensemble. She has taken the city of Atlanta by storm with her passion for music, even having the opportunity to sing for the National Bishop of the ELCA. Even though God is the reason for who she is today, she still gives all the credit to her parents for their continued patience and faith. Danny Rey is no longer, the little teenager caught in the world of R&B, she is now a soldier for God. And the journey continues…….
