I have been singing since about the age of 7. The first time I stood up before my church congregation and sang "Love Lifted Me" while my mother played the piano, I knew God had given me a special gift. After years of secretly singing to my bedroom mirror, I made my first audition tape for Star Search when I was 15. I didn't make it, but it was then that my mother discovered how important singing was to me. Thoughout high school and college I sang in chorus and musicals, which I believe helped me learn proper techniques. By age 20 I was sitting in with local bands, performing in whatever contest I could find, and singing karaoke 2-3 nights a week. I guess I became pretty well known, because I was approached one night by someone from "Southern Star", a country-rock band who had just lost their female lead singer. This person had heard about me and came out to hear me. I ended up performing with them for about 3 years. Terry Hicks, the leader, decided to get out of the business, so all of the members went our separate ways. Soon after, I joined "RockIt", a group based in Snellville, and only performed with them about a year. It was a great learning experience for me, because it allowed me to sing more than just country music. I was exposed to music by No Doubt, Melissa Etheridge, and Carol King, among others. I also competed twice in the Colgate County Showdown at the Country Fair at the Horsepark in Conyers, GA. It was a lot of fun. I'll sing anywhere. I used to sit in with Derek St. Holmes at Caddy's in Conyers, and I've also auditioned for an exec from MCA records. The Buckboard in Atlanta was also a frequent hangout for me years ago. I've been to Nashville twice and loved it! The musicians there were awesome! Some of the groups would let me sit in with them, including a band at Tootsies. I'll never forget that! I've also sang karaoke at Lonnie's, Wannabees, and Miss Kitty's. Things slowed down for me for a while because I work full time, (I work w/a great group of people @ the Covington Fire Dept) and have been raising a family. But I still love singing. I recently joined the GCGMA (GA Country and Gospel Music Association), and won Female Entertainer of Year for Tradiational Country, and Runner Up for Vocalist of the Year in Traditional Country. This earned me a spot in NACMAI, an upcoming National Competition that I'll be participating in in Pigeon Forge on March 9th at the Country Tonite Theatre. I'm really excited about that! GCGMA has given me a lot of opportunities to sing at different venues, so I'm having a great time right now! LOL I also recorded a Christmas CD this past November, something I've always wanted to do. I also enjoy writing lyrics. I used to carry a journal with me at all times and whenever something came to mind, I'd write it down. LOL So if anyone has music and you're in need of lyrics, I may can help you out. I've made a few cover CDs for fun, and I try to compete whenever I can. I recently competed in the Covington Idol, which was a lot of fun! I hope to do it again next year. If you want to know anything else, just ask! And keep a lookout for me, you never know where you might see me! :)
