CHICAGO PEACE FEST

About Me

We want to invite everyone to attended the CHICAGO PEACE FEST this year in JUNE 2009. We look forward to great success and to have an extraordinary time this year.
We warmly invite all people, communities, and organizations to unite in solidarity @ Lincoln Park (1700 N. Stockton) on the dates of June 19-21, from noon-nine, in support of PEACE, JUSTICE, and our ENVIRONMENT!
All activist groups, volunteer organizations, and non for profit corporations are welcome to FREELY set up a tent / table and leaflet as a means to proactively address local issues and promote progressive social causes. Once again, there is NO FEE to attend and participate, so please come out and show your support!
The Chicago Peace Fest will feature over 30 live musical acts from various genres and will be a fun and uplifting place to peaceably gather amongst friends in our beautiful city park right near the lakefront. There’s no better place to spend your summer!
We hope to see you at the Fest!
: )   For more information contact: Mike Kalas via email ([email protected] ) or check out the official website @ www.myspace.com/chicagopeacefest.

      TIPS TO REMEMBER!
Bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on, or set up a tent to camp out for the day. Bring a cooler and have a picnic, or buy some fresh food from one of our vendors. The beach is just a stroll away so bring a swimsuit and a towel if you’re planning on taking a dip. There's gonna be a wild drum circle so bring percussion instruments if you got 'em. Also, it is often difficult to find parking so it’s best to ride your bike or take public transportation. And most importantly, tell all of your friends!
      GENERAL INFORMATION:
    LOCATION AND MAP
The Peace Fest is located at Lincoln Park (just south of the zoo) @ 1700 N. Stockton Dr. (Lincoln Park is east of Clark St., west of Lake Shore Drive, and a block north of North Ave.)
MAP: http://tiny.cc/Q3FFc
    BIKING AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
By Bike: A good way to travel is to bike the Lake Front Trail which is just on the east side of Lake Shore Drive. Just ride the trail to the North Ave Bridge and crossing it will lead you directly to the fest.
By Train: Take the CTA Brown or Purple lines to Sedgwick, or the Red line to North / Clybourn, or the Blue line to Damen. The Brown and Purple lines are closest (a few blocks away). The Blue line is the farthest (3 miles away). You can transfer to any CTA train in the loop. Whatever train you take, when you get off start heading east towards the lakefront until you arrive at Lincoln Park.
By Bus: To head North / South take one of the following buses: 22 Clark, 36 Broadway, 151 Sheridan, 156 Lasalle. The fest is located in Lincoln Park, just south of the zoo, so get off at approximately 1700 N. (This is about 1 block north of North Ave which is 1600 N.)
Check out the CTA homepage (http://www.transitchicago.com/) for more information on Chicago’s public transit system.
   PARKING
It is often difficult to find free / meter parking around Lincoln Park. There is a pay parking lot directly next to the festival on Stockton Dr. If you are gonna drive it is a good idea to car pool.
      MESSAGE TO ORGANIZATIONS:
Organizations are welcome to FREELY set up a tent or table. This event is a great opportunity to hand out literature or DVDs, to get petition signatures, to speak out and raise awareness of important issues, to network with other people and groups, and to promote progressive local action. There will be a limited time allotted for an open microphone in between musical acts to briefly speak on the PA; just let us know at anytime during the fest if you would like to say a few words to the crowd.
There is no need to sign up or register in order to participate; you can just show up at any time. Get there early if you want to grab a good spot. Find a member of the Peace Fest Staff by the stage if you need any help.
Also, you can send an email to [email protected] with a brief paragraph describing your organization, mission, and cause in order to be included on our website as a participating organization.
     DROP OFFS AND PICK UPS
There is a service road that runs through the park that is accessible near the corner of LaSalle Dr. and Stockton. This road can be used only to drop off and pick up equipment such as tents, tables, chairs, etc.   MAP: http://tiny.cc/a2k6u
Please drive very slowly through the park. Vehicles cannot be parked on the service road and must be immediately moved after drop offs and pickups. There will be a member of the Peace Fest Staff available near the stage if any help is needed to load or unload and carry equipment to and from your vehicle.
    SECURITY
Tables and tents can be kept backstage overnight (on Friday and Saturday) so that you don’t have to haul everything back and forth each day. A security guard will be hired to watch the area. We will do our very best to keep your stuff safe but the Peace Fest is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
       VOLUNTEER!
The Chicago Peace Fest is one of the longest running entirely free community festivals in the city that is able to successfully run each year by the help of hard working volunteers who devote their time, money, and services. We can use your help! Please contact us if you would like to help by volunteering a resource or service and being involved as a member of our production team.

  PEACE!
ABOUT THE CHICAGO PEACE FEST AND OUR MISSION:
The Chicago Peace Fest offers a safe, peaceful, and welcoming space where people can gather as a community of friends and neighbors in order to share the sensational experience of lively music, fine art, entertainment, and wholesome fun created for the purpose of reviving life forces and awakening latent energies while also inspiring, motivating, and empowering people and organizations to participate in a radically progressive social movement.
The festival features a wide variety of local music and performing artists displaying the richness of the city's cultural diversity. The scene will be set in our beautiful city park by the lakefront in an atmosphere where people can feel at ease, relax, and have the chance to enjoy a memorable life experience amongst friends. Within this setting we plan to use the opportunity to promote a full spectrum of local initiatives, encourage progressive social activism, and to facilitate the event in order to help bridge community networks.
The ultimate mission is to bring people together in the spirit of peace and unity to promote progressive social change and focus upon working as one organized movement to solve common problems and initiate radically holistic reforms.
We want to bring together people from all walks of life and include all local communities, social change organizations, unions, political parties, religions, nationalities, ethnic groups, and cultures. This event offers a social networking opportunity where people will have time to meet and get to know many of the distinguished local activists who are diligently working on a variety of social issues that affect us all.
The Chicago Peace Fest is geared toward empowering participants of the event with radical alternatives, progressive ideas, potent information, positive direction, encouragement, and also a team of kindhearted, wise, and skillful friends who share the same vision of promoting sustainable peace and who are interested in working together cooperatively to resolve social conflicts, advance mutual goals, and support the common cause.
In the spirit of peace and unity we hope you join us!

Our Festival is respected worldwide. We have thousands in attendance. Our Fest is the longest running FREE Fest in Chicago, dating back Twenty Years.
Back in the day, you remember. We were 3 Festivals and did it 3 times a year. We were the Hemp Fest, Free Fest and Peace Fest. We are the ORIGINAL crew and still rocking you FREE TO THE PUBLIC and do this because WE LOVE IT.
So come on, get your name in on time so when we start the choosing YOU can be one that can be chosen.

Rock over London, Rock on Chicago. Choosy Mothers Choose Jif.

Influences:
"You can not separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has his freedom."
>Malcolm X (1925-1965)
"There was never a good war or a bad peace."
>Ben Franklin (1706-1790)
"I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there."
>Mother Theresa (1910-1997)
"A day will soon arrive where all knowledge will pour out from within us. All questions will be answered and all beings will understand peace."
"I'm talking to people not even born yet...words are forever.
Singing through Electronic ears...our destiny.
The Presidents and Kings of all Earths countries...Humanity.
Have waited for their messenger for years...Infusions.
I'm talking of things that I can't mention...the real truth.
Everyone it seems has got their fears...losing your beliefs.
I leave it in the past with good intention...remember.
Because someday those bad thoughts will disappear...redemption.
The Zero and the One are now so Equal...one thing.
The Infinite is not a thing to fear...eternity.
The primal cause was always our invention...our image.
The answers are the only things unclear...the question."
>One Among us (1961-0=1)
"The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells the Great Spirit, and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us."
>Black Elk (1863-1950)
"One day we must come to see that peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but that it is a means by which we arrive at that goal. We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means."
>Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968)
"But peace does not rest in the charters and covenants alone. It lies in the hearts and minds of all people. So let us not rest all our hopes on parchment and on paper, let us strive to build peace, a desire for peace, a willingness to work for peace in the hearts and minds of all of our people. I believe that we can. I believe the problems of human destiny are not beyond the reach of human beings."
>John F. Kennedy (1917-1963)
"Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God."
>Matthew, V:9
"The structure of world peace cannot be the work of one man or one party or one nation. It must be a peace which rests on the cooperative effort of the whole world."
>Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945)
"We will not build a peaceful world by following a negative path. It is not enough to say we must not wage war. It is necessary to love peace and sacrifice for it. We must concentrate not merely on the negative expulsion of war but on the positive affirmation of peace. We must see that peace represents a sweeter music, a cosmic melody, that is far superior to the discords of war. Somehow, we must transform the dynamics of the world power struggle from the negative nuclear arms race, which no one can win, to a positive contest to harness humanity's creative genius for the purpose of making peace and prosperity a reality for all the nations of the world. In short, we must shift the arms race into a peace race. If we have a will - and determination - to mount such a peace offensive, we will unlock hitherto tightly sealed doors of hope and transform our imminent cosmic elegy into a psalm of creative fulfillment."
>Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968)
"Peace is the one condition of survival in this nuclear age."
>Adlai Stevenson (1900-1965)
"In the hearts of people today there is a deep longing for peace. When the true spirit of peace is thoroughly dominant, it becomes an inner experience with unlimited possibilities. Only when this really happens - when the spirit of peace awakens and takes possession of men's hearts, can humanity be saved from perishing."
>Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965)
If there is to be peace in the world,
There must be peace in the nations.

If there is to be peace in the nations,
There must be peace in the cities.

If there is to be peace in the cities,
There must be peace between neighbors.

If there is to be peace between neighbors,
There must be peace in the home.

If there is to be peace in the home,
There must be peace in the heart.
>Lao Tzu (570-490 B.C.)
"There is no way to peace; peace is the way."
>A.J. Muste (1885-1967)
All Peace be with you my Brothers and Sisters.
