The Plaza District is an Oklahoma Main Street Community and an Oklahoma City Economic Redevelopment District, however, to many people, the Plaza District has represented the old end of the trolley line, a place to sneak off to see a picture show, a spot to find funky clothes in the "Diversity" days, and maybe just that quirky place you drove through to skip the 23rd street traffic.
The vision of the Plaza District is to see the Plaza District emerge as a destination in Oklahoma City for arts and entertainment. This vision is led by the collaboration between neighbors, business owners, property owners, volunteers, artists, the City of Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma Main Street Program and many others dedicated to the success of the Plaza District. Fueled by creativity, the mixed-use district embraces the eclectic diversity that makes the area so unique, and highlights the wealth of artistic talent residing within the city. As arts and culture continue to grow within Oklahoma City, the Plaza District aims to nurture this growth by providing opportunities through spaces, businesses and events focused on the arts in Oklahoma while also supporting businesses serving the surrounding neighborhoods.
Today, we encourage you to make the Plaza District what you want it to be. Hopefully, a place you will remember the Lyric Theatre performances, emerging visual art shows, unique and funky finds...and one of the only places to get old-school Coke bottles from the Guatemalan import store, or even your first tattoo. There are still many memories to be made and shaped here. Join us in the Plaza District, where the pace of life is slow and the people make it's beat.
