This profile was made at www.wishafriend.comSterling Y's made a great record with a modern sound, but to catch them live is to hear what it's all about. The Sterling in their name is no accident; the riffs and backbeat are hammered silver. Twin guitar arrangements tightly wound as Queen unwind with an Aerosmith punch to the gut. It's enough to say the lead vocals command an equal place at the table, and that's no easy task given the tight riffs and a backbeat that's heavy and supple at the same time like few bands this side of Zeppelin have ever been able to muster. Guys this young with this much command of their riffs and arrangements are hard to come by. It's a hard row to hoe being a rock band in this digital age of hip hop and Beatles mashes, but Sterling Y are a horse to bet on. Hell, they remind me of Thin Lizzy. That's reason enough to pay the cover. Go see them and know that rock is alive.

Formed in 2005, when lead singer Michael Hobby and guitarist William Satcher met in a South Carolina music store, Sterling Y quickly gained a following in their native Columbia. Then they decided to pull up stakes and move to Nashville, TN in the fall of 2006 to record Ten Comes Twice with industry veteran Rogers Masson (Marilyn Manson, The Mavericks, Eric Clapton).
“I see a lot of national acts come in here...you were better than most..." Dave Farra, quoted after an onair performance at WARQ, Rock 93.5 Columbia, SC
“Finally, proof that REAL rock and roll still exists...Sterling Y: get used to hearing their name on a daily basis.â€-Chuck Van Patten, WARQ, Rock 93.5 Columbia, SC
"This Rock ‘n Roll band from Nashville, Tennessee will certainly have listeners hand banging along to their new CD, especially to their opening song "Diamond Ring". No doubt that they are fabulous live because of heavy, powerful drums and a voice that is wonderfully raspy and full of character & range from lead singer Michael Hobby. His voice, which was made for the radio and especially the rock ‘n roll stage, conveys just the right emotion for each song. His vocal talents can especially be heard in "Give A Damn" and "Clearly Now". This band knows just how to keep a song catchy by not overdoing its guitar, drums, or lyrics. But they also know how to bust out true all-American Rock n Roll songs throughout the album, as well. With the perfect singer and perfect band mates to back him up, their album definitely belongs on the tops of the Billboard charts." By Alexandra Herrera, HOT INDIE NEWS .com
