Born in Philadelphia, PA, raised in Germantown, before his father moved his family to Clayton, NJ, at the age of 5. Mic-L was already playing piano which he acquired by the age of 2. This multi-talented prodegy began to restructure his piano performances by composing extended versions to all of the songs chosen by his instructor, which of course, drove her crazy but, thrilled his audiences and made his mother very proud. Bored with one instrument, Mic-L was driven to drums after his instructor refused to continue to teach him. She learned not only could the young entertainer read music but, he was successfully duplicating and re-arranging everything he heard. Which was easy for Mic-L with Motown Records' countless choices of stars including the newly discovered Jackson 5. It was the young Michael Jackson's voice he often imatated until Mic-L's little friends counldn't tell the difference between the two. Mic-L was 7. His mother, a production supervisor/inspector worked for Columbia Records, located at the time in Pitman, NJ. She brought her son countless albums home for him to learn and play with after he practiced sometimes 8 to 10 hours per day by numerious artist in every category. He mastered the drummer, Buddy Rich's style by the age of 9. His older brother, Marlon, didn't allow Mic-L to play his electric guitar by keeping the case locked when he wasn't using the instrunment. This fueled his desire to play more instruments though he was very happy with his drums. His grandmother bought him a Fender Jazzman Bass. Thing is, Mic-L was left handed and the Bass was for a right handed musician. His Grandmother suggested he turn the Bass upside down and play it that way. So he did. Brand new world for the young star now with Parliment Funkadelic, Confunction and other 70's stars rising up. His favorite Bassists, Bootsy Collins, Stanley Clarke and Rick James gave life to his ear for the Bass Guitar, though he did pick the lock to his brother's lead and played it as well. When he entered the 6th grade, he was placed in the High School Marching Band as a drummer. Having access to the instrument closet was all he needed as he learned to play everything he saw. By his senior year Mic-L was helping his band director teach most of the daily classes. He was awarded a national Who's Who In Music as a high school senior and was offered numerous music scholarships which he turned down including an offer from Berklee College of Music in Boston. Mic-L wanted to play basketball.
Mic-L found success with his good friend Michael Rhodes, current owner of Triumph Records in South Carolina, and their Funk band DEVESTATION. Members included: Michael Rhodes-lead guitar, Mic-L-lead vocals/bass/drums,
Tyrone"Heavy Hoovie"Cannon-drums, Reginald Cannon-percussion, Tony Carr-bass, the Knight sisters, Janice & Linda-lead and background vocals, David Knight-brass section, Marvin"Ronnie"Allen-brass section, Paul-hype(never knew his last name). Along with Michael Rhodes, Mic-L, then known as "Big Holc" arranged countless originals which made DEVESTATION one of the areas most popular bands. Mic-L found it extremely difficult to perform without his band members and struggled to get back on stage for several years after their break up. perfecting his ability to create, Mic-L continue to write songs and at times up to several per day for years while trying to settle in the Houston, Texas area. His goal was always to set the record straight with an album of unparalelled success especially after witnessing his childhood idol, Michael Jackson win a record 8 Grammy Awards with 12 nominations the same night. Mic-L brings hot drum/percussion tracks, along with numerous keys and harmonics to his sound. With a funky flare of jazz, the artist slides in a silky, smooth taste of R&B and at times shows off his ability to bring suductive lyrics to enhance the thoughts of his audience. "Forgiven" is a challenging piece of music mastery that tells a distinctive story of the lives of those in his past, his present and his future, whereas he has given all of his possibilities to the Lord Jesus Christ, creator of all things. Mic-L(Minister in Christ's Love) wants to share his story with the world. The condition of our world cannot be fixed but, lives can be saved and changed through Jesus who died for us all. This is not a gospel work, however it's content is extreme in spirituality and you recognize that fact the very moment you hear the music that has all been inspired by a life grown up through very difficult times - 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's to our current times the year 2008, the year of new beginnings.
