Marty was born in Kannapolis, N.C., the son of a Southern Baptist minister. He credits his musical family, especially his mother, Frances Johnson as his earliest musical influences. When Marty was six, his mother taught him to play the guitar, from there he learned to play several other instruments and he grew up playing and singing with his family group "The Brewer Family", as well as in Church. In his musical career Marty has performed with several Southern Gospel Groups, worked as a Studio Musician / Engineer, Church Musician, Worship Leader and a "Solo" singing ministry.
