Kooky’s path, who describes himself as one of the last remaining street soldiers of RDP, is one that is hard to believe. It is one that accurately depicts the harsh reality of most rapper’s day to day life.
He was born in Montreal, the third eldest of six children, raised by a single mother – his father left the home early on. As a teenager he was out of control and was sent to juvenile detention centers numerous times. As an adult, he follows through the path of delinquency that he had already started: he was stabbed, shot at and constantly in and out of jail. He lost many friends due to his association to the well-known Bad Boy gang based in the East end of Montreal.
Today only is enemies remains. Even in light of that fact it does not take away that dimple that is permanently present on his face. Loyal, kind and even sensitive at time he aspires to put on the map the talent that he knows is present in RDP and why not start with only the best: himself.
To survive in the hood you have to be street-smart, trust your instinct, display creativity and be versatile. Nowadays, Kooky applies all those acquired aptitudes in his music. He is singer, rapper and producer making him a triple threat to be reckoned with in the Montreal urban scene. As far as he can remember, he’s been singing since he learned how to talk but only started to take music seriously at the age of 13 years old.
He made his debut with the group Alibi Inc and they had an underground success “Straight from RDP†that quickly became the non-official hymn of that neighbourhood. Since then, he’s had multiple collaborations with local artists such as Cyrus; he appeared on projects such as Hood2Ville, Big Bang Records etc…
“Back In The Streets†is a true reflection of his current state of mind: he is prepared to go back to the rough streets that made him the man he is today; ready to put some order in his life in order, by hustling hard and being on the grind; ready to regain the respect of the street soldiers through his talent and versatility.
