Jami Lula Vocalist, Musician, Songwriter and Workshop Facilitator I’ve been seeking the source of my life since I was a little boy. My deepest connection to said source came through singing. I have always felt connected with life when I sang. I originally began singing with a band in the 1970’s because I thought girls would then see I was worth something. As a result of doing Jesus Christ Superstar with a local community theater in Roseville Michigan I met a long time friend Tom Denolf who gave me my initial mentoring and reminded me that I was here for the audience not for myself. I was to give 110% every time I got onstage to sing. I am grateful for that early lesson, it has stuck with me to this day and I know unequivocally that I never give less than that when I am singing. I sang for a few groups growing up and when I moved to L.A. after attending the Musicians Institute in 1987 I began singing with the group “Anything Orange “ which became “LULA†We released a couple of records on our own label “Circle Up Records†our first in 1996 entitles “Waiting†our second “Live Groove “ released in 1998. I was nominated for Male Vocal Performance of the year in 1996-97 at the L.A. Music Awards. I, gratefully, accepted the award in 1997. After an almost 10 year run as a unit we decided to call it a day in December 1998, and I began following the path that had been calling to me for years. My Soul wanted to sing, my Spirit wanted to be revealed. I made a conscious decision to sing about GOD. About the Spirit of Life that I refer to as GOD. I grew up in a religion that espoused that God was outside of me and I had to go through a mediator to get to God because I was dirty , born of original sin! I have not subscribed to that since I was 17 and had an epiphany that said “God is not out there it is in me , and we are not right and they are not wrong about their GOD.†My desire, through the music that moves through me, is to create a safe space for people to uncover the Spirit of their lives. Regardless of what it looks like. Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, etc… it is only in uncovering what works for any individual to express the Fullness of the Spirit or their own life. I have released 3 albums as a solo artist. The first album I released was “Something’s Calling Me “ released 9 days before my son Dylan Shanti the 2nd album “ALIVE†was released February of 2004. My latest record Compassion is a 6 song Ep released in April of 2005I continue to dedicate my voice through soulful singing and uplifting themes. As a vocalist, musician and teacher I am performing music that is uplifting, healing, heart opening and inspiring and that spreads a powerful message of love and positive intention.
