About Me

For the last decade I have been doing ministry around the country. It has been a blessing. First with Scarecrow and Tinmen and then for the last five years doing ministry on my own. It has been amazing to connect with kids in various parishes around the states doing keynotes and concerts. I have a lot of new material coming out and some great updates on my website (www.chris-padgett.com). In Easter of 1999 I entered the Roman Catholic Church, which has been one of the most amazing adventures of my life. Many stereotypes and preconceived notions had to be modified for me to make such a transition, but the longer I searched, the more convinced I became. I have also been blessed with the most amazing wife ever. Linda and I met in high school and have been in love ever since. With eight children, tons of memories, and prayerfully many years before us to grow in this vocation, I am graced to spend this time with my best friend Linda. Touring around the country is cool, but having the stability of home has been the backbone of this apostolate. I have spent the last few years finishing up my master's degree in theology, from Franciscan University in Steubenville, Oh. This January I take a comprehensive exam and I will prayerfully be able to graduate in May of 06. This is a major achievement for me, especially with all of the travel and responsibilities I have at home. The Lord is good, and I am hoping to even begin doctoral work soon. I have a few books that are coming out soon as well, along with tons of music, both solo and stuff from S and T. I am grateful for everyone who has kept us in prayer and supported our journey.I like Movies: Here are a few of my favorites......... Dances with Wolves Dead Poets Society The Lord of the Rings trilogy all of Star Wars I liked Powder, even though it was a bit odd. JFK and the Shawshank Redemption were cool for me too. My wife and I every year or so watch The Edge, with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. It has been enjoyable. We do enjoy movies, and I especially like wierd and off the cuff projects like, Spinal Tap, Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind, and of course Napolean Dynamite. The Monty Python Stuff rocks too!I enjoyTelevision: Here are some of my favorites........ I love football. We live near Pittsburgh so Steeler games are priority here. My family is pretty into Lost, and I enjoy the Law and Order and CSI shows. It is easy for me to get in the groove of watching tv, but I really don't have a lot of time for it. That show The Office is funny! And My Name is Earl is pretty cool too. I used to love watching The Hulk, Dukes of Hazzard, and Dallas when I was a kid. My wife and I liked that show Ed when it was on. One of my all-time fav's is Little House on the Prairie. What an awesome show! I grew up on tv.I love Books: Here are some of my favorites............ This is so where I am at. I love talking about and reading books. In fact, I have a website that will be up and running soon called www.greatbookreviews.com Some suggested readings: Dr. Scott Hahn's: A Father Who Keeps His promises, The Lamb's Supper, Rome Sweet Home Steve Ray: Crossing the Tiber, Upon this Rock Mark Miravalle: With Jesus, Introduction to Mary Father Manelli: Jesus Our Eucharistic Lord C.S. Lewis: Narnia books, Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce Henri Nouwen: The Return of the Prodigal Son, Adam, The Genesee Diary Thomas Merton: Thoughts in Solitude Check out Cardinal Ratzinger's stuff (now Pope Benedict XVI), and Josep Pieper. Most of these books can be found at www.ignatiuspress.comWe need good Heroes: Here are some of those in my life............. The Saints! I am really into the lives of the saints. How amazing they were, amidst such great opposition and persecution. Seriously, I am hoping to reflect their willingness to be abandoned to Christ in what I say and do. They are heroic in word and deed. I am especially impressed by my wife. She is certainly a saint! I have found her to be so wise too. In many ways, she is the one who I go to in order to process struggles and concerns. She has such wisdom and I am graced to be with her. My mother as well has been a hero to me. She introduced me to Christ, and provided stability in our family, when her world was shook with divorce and poverty. There is no way to repay her!

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.chris-padgett.com
Band Members: When I travel with a group, many times I use Mike Ofca on guitars, Dan Bozek for bass, and John Sayer or Joe Zelek on Drums. These are great musicians I have been blessed to work with.
Influences: I have been into the Beatles since I was a kid. Their simple hooks and willingness to experiment with various instruments and musical styles is ingenius. Their harmonies rock! In addition to the fabulous four I really like Jimmy Eat World, Coldplay, and even Keane's project, Hopes and Fears. Mostly I have been enjoying Ben Folds though as of late. His music is right where I am at in terms of production, and outside of some of his potty lyrics, I think he has some great musical insights and vulnerable lyrics. For peaceful music I listen to John Michael Talbot, and some Gregorian chant or classical pieces. U2 and Kings X have a special place in my life too because both of these bands became more a part of my musical influence because of a good friend Jim Smith who was passionate about them. He always seemed to have something new to check out. If you are like me then I am sure your muscial favorites can change on a dime. Who can deny the beauty of Abba or Air Supply...........
Sounds Like: The greatest singer in the entire world................ Well, now that we have that out of the way. I sound like me, which includes a weird voice, unique pronuciations, and the ability to cause even auto-tune to quiver. At times I'd like to think I sound like a Catholic Ben Folds or maybe some Keith Green or Billy Joel. I think the recordings I've done have a wider flow, at times bringing in some Fab four type of harmonies and at other times playing around with some current rock trends. I realize I would probably be voted off of American Idol in the first round or two, but I honestly feel that God has kindly allowed me to plunk away at the piano and sing a bit off tune now and again in order to show that God isn't waiting for the perfect voice in order to use him or her. I love that He takes our small gifts and talents and does something sweet with them!
