In terms of Soca music “Penny Cabrera” is a relatively new artiste on the scene. She is however not new to the stage or new to performing. She first started singing in 1994 where she embraced the stage in the national Parang Competition in Arima Trinidad. Her debut singing career started out with a band called Los Maistros De La Musica, a native band from where she was born in Rancho Quemado but lived most of her very young adult life in Point Fortin Trinidad. In Point Fortin she was privileged to have been a back up vocalist for “Sancouche” band before migrating to New York City. Penny Cabrera has an intense passion for music, but has a special adoration for Parang music since it’s in her roots, part of her family’s heritage. It was to such an extent that she became a member of a New York Parang Band called Brooklyn Music Makers in 2005 and have been doing seasonal parang performances in New York City ever since. During her performance she has been privileged to share the stage with many big artistes in the business as a back up vocalist. Apart from being a singer Penny Cabrera is also a gifted poet and songwriter. Writing for her is yet another one of her various talents. It is her intention to make a meaningful contribution to the art form through her writing and her productions. Penny Cabrera is also passionate about Social Work and helping people, which is her current academic career path. When she is not singing, performing or at school, she’s just a simple, open minded, very family oriented and fun loving girl.
