About Me
Born in Witchita, Kansas. Date unknown.........Studied to be a trombone player.......Recorded two albums featuring her 'bone playing (see photos). The first with LOREN WHITNEY, organ player and owner of Whitney Record Studios in Glendale, California........Growing interest in vocalizing led to lessons, which couldn't eliminate her very high-register "childlike" voice.............Eventually recorded an album spotlighting her unique talent called HAPPY DAY EXPRESS, the first of several on Cornerstone Records. She still needed a strong personna to carry the act, and through meeting a successful female ventriloquist she was emboldened to create a 'little girl' character to go with her voice. VONDA VAN DYKE and Marcy starred together in the 1960 film TEENAGE DIARY; and Vonda was still a professional ventriloquist later when she became Miss America for 1965..............Marcy Tigner studied the popular PAUL WINCHELL book VENTRILOQUISM FOR FUN AND PROFIT, and completed the rigorous Cartoon and Dialect courses at the Mel Blanc School Of Voice And Commercials.....................LITTLE MARCY Herself (see photos), the figurine of many a childhood nightmare, or pleasant hour, depending, no offense intended, merely an acknowledgement that many of us who adore puppets, the older and scarier the better, could still have found them Disturbing in our youth, although we wouldn't have used that word..............The doll itself was sculpted (from a sketch by Marcy?) in the Chicago studio of THEODORE MACK & SON, the famed designer of CHARLIE McCARTHY and MORTIMER SNERD, whose shop dated back as far as 1915.(see photo)...................Marcy and husband Everett Tigner lived in Los Angeles for a time in a housing development owned by Lawrence Welk. {Each unit was provided with a working bubble machine}....................Marcy worked in all media spreading her positive messages, on local and national television, and even for a while with a weekly TV show in Oregon, where she later settled. Marcy was and is a unique and enjoyably happy performer of her genre................................THANKS TO: Dr. ZOMB, from his crib in Oregon for the original classic interview with Marcy Tigner, embellished with a little research and speculation of my own.......................This does not purport to be The Definitive Marcy Site, but merely an informative lovefest.............I want to see if there are others besides me who actually ENJOY this stuff........It helps that I like gospel (old-timey, anyway) music I suppose.....................................................
