Dear everyone,
A lot of you have been asking what has happened, why we broke up, and if we would be playing a final show. I will make sure and answer these questions.First I must say thank you to everyone who has stuck around for so long. I am talking about those who didn’t care if we changed members and didn’t care if we released new music 3 months after we said it would be done. The fact is no matter what faults we had as a band there was those who stuck through it all no matter what. For everyone to understand what has happened I should explain a few details. RPDJ has been a band since 2003. Before that we were called “Capuletâ€. Capulet had to change their name because of a complaint that another band had our name. At the time I had watched a movie called “pump up the volume†Staring Christian Slater.(If you haven’t seen it, I beg you to watch it).RPDJ was officially formed in 2003 with Marcus Vankirk, Garrett Briggs, and I, Josh LaFave. Soon we recruited Joshua Augustine(formerly of “For The Bestâ€) to join us in the line up. Due to Scene influence and musical alignment, we soon replaced Garrett with Drew Easton( Also of For The Best). We felt sure that this new and final line up would take over the scene, state, and country we lived in.After reaching our goal of touring and being on warped tour Radio Pirate DJ soon started hitting bumps in the road. Josh A had to take a leave of absence dude to personal Problems so we were soon confronted with the task of finding a new singer/guitar player. Marcus, Drew, & I soon befriended Joshua Goff, of “Stars Due Fallâ€. Josh was resilient and excited to join the ranks. He soon added a new depth of harmonies to the band we never would have expected. Unfortunately things would not last. Josh would soon leave due to miscommunication within the band. Eventually Josh A would come back. Now that the dream team of Marcus, Josh, Josh, & drew was back RPDJ had high hopes. We toured around the country and also made a name for our selves in the Michigan scene. Everything was well but soon the downfall would start.Marcus chose to leave to go on tour with “chiodos†to help sell merch and do other deeds. Eventually he helped for the band “Cinematic Sunrise†Eventually this took up all his time and he had little time for the band that could.RPDJ was forced to find a new bass player and have both josh’s take over on vocals. The band was not ready to give up. Soon we added Brian Aldrich ..s and Mike Reed on bass. Previously we had started our full length “This is Life, This is Livingâ€. With our new compadre’s we finished the album.Although the album ranked top with friends and fans, it did not help the downward spiral that had become RPDJ.
Soon after the release of the cd Drew Easton decided to part ways to join “Forever in a Dayâ€. After that RPDJ was forced to look for other talent. That talent was found in the drum skills of Griff Powe. Although not present on the cd, Griff was a young and ambitious drummer and easily accepted into the RPDJ group. Everything again was back to normal and the radio was strong again.Josh, Griff, and Bry decided after some time that it was at the point to move on. These three formed the band “Lies Like Meâ€. Now with Josh L and Mike left RPDJ had to practically recast the whole band.To come and fill the slots were James Hancock, formally of “Hate the Radioâ€, “Art of Accidentsâ€, and “Make Ones Moveâ€, and also Terry Elonzondo.
These two talented young individuals helped keep the spirit of Radio Pirate DJ alive through countless shows and also a new recording. All good things must come to and end. I, Josh L, have played in rpdj for what seems like forever. I have really grown up and I really have a different taste in music that I had 4 years ago.The real reason why RPDJ is broken up is because the members lost faith, including my self. This bad would have been great and we have all you fans to prove it.Its not personal however. Different folks, different strokes. You grow out of your undies eventually, so you can free ball it. Just remember we tried to keep this band going for the fans. It was all of you that gave it life. I am sorry this has to end, but just remember all the good times you had listening to our songs or rocking out with us at our shows.LoveJosh LP.S. If everyone who has been in this band agrees to a final show, then it will be so.
Lots of Love,
Josh L
