bec abbot started singing Amy Grant covers from the platform of her father’s church, dabbled briefly in show tunes and arias during school days, and found greater freedom doing back-up-vocals and tambourine licks for various Toronto artists during club gigs from 1997-2000.
For the last 3 years bec has been touring her debut, Juno-nominated album Shine Like Stars (2003) and her Covenant award-winning song, ‘Thrive’ has been heard on Canadian Christian radio from coast to coast.
Her sophomore album, Not So Hip, was released on November 29, 2005, showcases abbot’s warm vocals and honest, evocative lyrics. Highlights on the album are the title track, ‘Not So Hip’ co-written with acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter Carolyn Arends and ‘You Say My Name’, co-written with Ken Harrison (the Wild Strawberries). The album will be available at Canadian Christian bookstores and at www.becabbot.com .
Through writing and performing, bec explores her life and faith simply and honestly. Her desire is to communicate authentically, share truth boldly and to encourage healing and wholeness.
"Tasty and thoughtful, catchy and true, wildly creative pop music you can sink your teeth into"- Carolyn Arends on Shine Like Stars
