PRIMOUS FOUNTAIN - composer

About Me

PRIMOUS FOUNTAIN – the incredibly talented, self-taught composer who has come along to create some of the most electic style music of all time. The youngest composer ever to have won a Guggenheim fellowship and 3years later secured it a second time. Awarded American Academy of Arts and Letter's Goddard Lieberson Fellowship. He started composing already in high school and soon after graduation he could devote himself to composing under the sole patronage of highly acclaimed Quincy Jones. In his late teens he met the pianist Herbie Hancock who played a tape recording of a rehearsal of an orchestra piece of Fountain to Miles Davis. Some time later Davis told Fountain: "I like what I heard, I want to take your music to Columbia(records)". He invited him to be his guest each day for the week he was performing in Boston. Fountain is one of the very few composers to live almost totally on comissions such as those from:
Symphony no. 2 , commissioned by Quincy Jones (recently completed, a large work in four movements, of epic proportions, with fresh, new ideas, unique to the classical music repetiore)
String Orchestra , commissioned by choreograher William Forsythe and the Frankfut Ballet
Concerto For Cello and Orchestra , commissioned by Anthony Ellott and the Minnesota Orchestra
Ritual Dances of the Amaks , second movement, commissioned by Michael Tilson Thomas
