About Me
Randy Rhoads
..I've always been into music. It started with the piano and keyboards at age 7, the oboe from 10-13, and the guitar at 14. The poor oboe was abandoned, but I still play the piano, keyboards, and guitar.I loved Billy Joel when I was little, then around 5th grade I went into my phase where I listened to Ozzy, Floyd, Rush, Maiden, Zeppelin, Metallica, stuff like that. That phase went on for years...no wonder I turned out so weird. That's the music I jammed to on the guitar when I began to play in high school. The musician who inspired me to play the guitar is the late Randy Rhoads. Unfortunately, I discovered him just a couple years after his death. I regret that I never had the chance to see him perform live. I wasn't really into many female musicians during those adolescent years, maybe because I had crushes on all the guys in the bands and I didn't want to hang girls all over my bedroom walls! At the other end of the spectrum is the classical guitar, my other love, which I discovered in high school shortly after I started playing electric guitar. I still play both and until my fingers no longer function, I always will.Female guitarist? I know what you're thinking...and no, I'm not just another poser chick that learned a couple bar chords and dubbed myself a guitarist. I've been playing since '87 when guitar solos were still present in songs. I've had to prove myself many times over and will continue to many times more. It seems there's a shortage of female guitarists out there that can actually play.My family has always been supportive of all the crazy things I've pursued in life. I was raised in an environment that nurtured my dreams, rather than killed them, no matter how outrageous they were. Without their help, I would have missed out on years of private lessons, musical instruments, and endless art supplies. I was not one of those kids that was forced to play an instrument or take lessons, I chose to.My family supported my musical ambitions all the way to college, where I was given a full scholarship at SMU to major in Performance Guitar (classical). I also had a wonderful guitar teacher, Pauline Cormiér, who trained me in classical guitar, music theory, and helped me prepare my audition tapes to send off to various colleges throughout the U.S. I was accepted in a few different programs around the country and ended up choosing SMU, but mentally it just wasn't my time because I was ready to move back just a couple months later. I left it behind. Oops! Sometimes I regret not sticking it out longer and trying a little harder, but I feel that all things happen for a reason. I ended up getting my Bachelor's Degree in Commercial Art/Computer Design back in the Midwest so I didn't altogether abandon the whole college scene. The reason I moved to Cali was to pursue my love for music but I got a little sidetracked with modeling. Now instead of regretting what I "could've, should've, would've" done, I'm doing what I've always wanted to do.As for band experience, I was the rhythm guitarist and keyboardist for the band ANYONE from 2004-2007 and now I am working on my solo project.
