This retreat offers you the opportunity to really refine the quality of your Yidaki playing and to develop your personal Yidaki playing style. The course will cover everything from the individual parts of rhythms to the composing and playing of complicated rhythm structures. If you want to take your Yidaki playing to the next level, and have an exciting adventure, then this is the course for you!
There will be 15 hours of Yidaki tuition in total, delivered over a 6 day retreat period. The information will be taught for 3 hours per day at 1.5 hour intervals. The start and finish times will be arranged at a time most suitable for your group. During the 6 day retreat, there is a day off and plenty of spare time to allow you to practise what you have learnt.
Jeremy’s skill and flexibility as a teacher will cater for all skill levels and accommodate the different needs of the group. There will also be the opportunity for 1 to 1 tuition with Jeremy. For more information about Jeremy click here.
The retreat centre:
The retreat centre is situated high in the hills above the small village of Dhaulchinna (close to the border of Nepal) with stunning views to the Himalayas and surrounding forest regions. The building is a traditional Indian farmhouse that has been renovated into a retreat centre to comfortably sleep 15 people. The retreat centre has good quality filtered drinking water available. Bedrooms are comfortable and sleep between 2 and 4 per room. During the retreat you will be served 3 typical Indian vegetarian meals each day, prepared by an Indian chef. You will be able to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings as well as visit local areas of interest with expert guides.
Travel schedule and details:
Day 1 (22nd March): Arrive in New Delhi and meet other participants, stay overnight at a good quality hotel in New Delhi.
Day 2: Travel to Rishikesh and relax there. Stay overnight in a quiet part of Rishikesh, at a quality hotel.
Day 3: Tour Rishikesh with our personal guide. Here you can see fire ceremonies and other activities at the famous Ganges river.
Day 4: Tour old Rishikesh with our personal guide, take the night train to Kathgodam (close to Nepal). This train has comfortable beds.
Day 5: Drive 5 hours in a taxi-jeep and walk half an hour from the road to the retreat centre. Porters will carry heavy bags and Yidaki .
Day 6: to 11 Yidaki immersion course:
Day 6: This day will cover Individual Sounds (the parts of rhythms). You will practice and refine the precision and quality of each sound.
Day 7: Using the Individual Sounds from the previous day, various practise rhythms will be taught and practised.
Day 8: Practise rhythms from the previous day will be developed into more complicated rhythms. Composition techniques are introduced.
Day 9: Day off. You can visit an ancient temple in the neighbourhood, go walking through stunning scenery, visit local villages and much more.
Day 10: Composition analysis and practise. Development of complicated rhythms and structures.
Day 11: Detailed analysis of composition and development of personal Yidaki playing style. Evening celebration party and concert!
NB: Throughout this course there will be listening and responding exercises, distinctions and refining of sound quality, development of playing power and personal playing style. The rhythms taught in this course will differ from previous workshops that Jeremy has taught.
Day 12: Travel back to New Delhi.
Day 13: Arrive to New Delhi and stay in a good quality hotel.
Day 14: See New Delhi (visit Taj Mahal etc). Farewell party!
Day 15: Return flight home.
Cost:
1100 €. This price includes all tuition, all transportation in India, all accommodation (hotels and venue) and all meals at the retreat centre.
