With society at a brink of destruction and our newer generation of children at a lost of self-identity, there is finally an answer to it all. With music to answer every question, a voice to captivate every heart, and a gift to reach every soul, DonDie’go is truly someone to be watched.................................................So really, what’s in a name? Born DonDie’go Lomax Jr., astrological sign Gemini, this singer/songwriter, dancer, model, actor, son, brother and father is definitely an artist on the rise. His passion for entertainment begin at the tender age of eight when he performed in his very first talent show, singing the 1992’s smash hit, “If I Ever Fall In Love†by Shai. At that point, he not only felt in heart that lights, camera and action was a dream to live out but it was also a calling from God........................................................F
rom then on he became unstoppable. Premiering in such musicals as “The Wizâ€, “Cabin In The Sky†& “The Black Cinderella†(just to highlight a few) this showstopper was/is undeniably a crowd pleaser. DonDie’go went on to exercise his talent by joining his school choir, where there he had the great opportunity to perform at the McDonalds gospel fest, where his choir came in third place......................................................D
uring his secondary school career, Mr. Lomax became apart of his high school choir and marching band, moving on to become drum major. Not feeling completely whole as a dancer, he then formed his very own dance group where they performed at numerous shows, events and games. But yet, the vocalist in him became a bit jealous by the dancer. In conjunction with three other colleagues, the quartet STREET HARMONY came into play. Performing contemporary/gospel music all originally written, arranged and composed by DonDie’go and STREET HARMONY, this self-driven group became a local success! Taking on a different church every Sunday with music that proved melody had no age boundary...............................................Putti
ng his music career on the back burner, at the age of eighteen, he went on to attend Columbia College Chicago to study dance/choreography. After two years of rigorous training, DonDie’go was honored with a scholarship to join the elite Joel Hall Dance studio (Chicago). Audition after audition, he was finally discovered by Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (Miami), where there he performed as a professional dancer night after night. But it didn’t end there. In March of 2008, he went on to audition for Fox’s hit show, “So You Think You Can Dance.†Though he didn’t make it to the Las Vegas round, a few clips of him were aired......................................................H
aving the opportunity to sit down with DonDie’go, I asked him, “What makes you any different from the next male artist on the rise these days? What makes your music stand out?†Replying: “To me, being vulnerable is being human, a lot of artist these days get so wrapped up on the cars, money and women, to where the entire message of the song gets lost n la la land sumwhere. I’m, I’m not afraid to step on stage and show my emotions, to cry, to allow my audience to enter my world. Someone I once looked up to told me “Fall in love with the art, be your own push†and that has stayed with me til this day. Shit if I cant believe in myself, who else will? I’m ready for da world, but I don’t think the world is ready fa me!â€And with that being said, DonDie’go truly possesses the soul of a fighter.
