Born & raised in Columbus, Ohio, Trav Is (or Travonomics) grew up on a steady diet of music ranging from Michael Jackson & Anita Baker to Bruce Springsteen & Van Halen. The mid-late 90's proved to be a turning point with the introduction of heavy doses of Metal (Tool, Mudvayne, Slipknot), Alternative (The Mars Volta, Radiohead, Blur), and, not to mention, a host of mind-altering substances. What became of this volatile mix was the man you see/hear/feel today. A musical cornucopia on an epic scale.
The mission of Trav Is (along with Newtype, Complex) is not to "change the game" but rather to provide an alternative to those who are sick of the 106th & Park set. By incorporating elements from various sources, no two songs have the same texture, tone, or feeling. Long lauded for it's heavy use of sampling, Hip-Hop took a turn for the "worse" when people figured out that using those stock tracks on their Motifs (or whatever it is people use now) they only have to work half as hard. But Trav Is believes sampling to be the last surviving element of "Real" Hip-Hop. No time-stretching here. If the samples clash...well...fuck it.
