david bowie - i picture us chatting about art over a cup of coffee --- the dali lama - probably the warmest human being on earth + that smile could melt even the coldest of hearts
ok, a start per my ipod playlists: air, bill van loo, blanche, blonde redhead, boards of canada, broken social scene, david bowie, detroit experiment, die fantastischen vier, fugazi, gorillaz, johnny cash, koop, krafwerk, lcd soundsystem, madonna, morcheeba, pascal, pet shop boys, pixies, portishead, prefuse 73, radiohead, royksopp, sigur ros, solvent, talking heads, telefon tel aviv, the clash, the cure, the velvet underground, the white stripes, ulrich schnauss. various jazz artists inspire me as do so many other genres of music that i just can't list all. but will.
seventh seal, fight club, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, rashomon, run lola run, memento, the royal tenenbaums, gerry, the shining (original - obviously), adaptation, lost in translation, coffee and cigarettes, kill bill 1+2, waking life, felini, especially 8 1/2, cremaster 1-5, baraka, man with a movie camera, jem cohem's films, most bergman films, hitchcock for sure, spike jonze's films, michele gondry's films, chris cunningham's films, music videos (minus the awful poppy ones without artistic merit), experimental films with amazing imagery too many to name here and i especially hold a special place in my filmic heart for maya derren and stan brakhage. thumbsucker was excellent, as was the chronicles of narnia, all of the harry potters are great and many, many more but this makes a good start.
hmph ... where to start on this one? i pretty much effing despise the tele. i don't so much mind good tv like TCM, myth busters, ghost hunters, lost, gillmore girls, the good bands who come on saturday night live and anything else i've seen lately that i've liked has pretty much been from dvd and those are (in no particular order): chapelle show, old skool saturday night live, muppet show and really old tv shows from the 80s, when tv was good.
i recently moved and realised that i own way too many books. letsee... currently reading; no one belongs here more than you (miranda july), projected cities, sculpting in time, being peace and a book called afterculture: detroit and the humiliation of history. finished reading; chuck klosterman iv.
i was once told to kill my heroes. but i think that killing is wrong, though sometimes quite warranted.
