Every two minutes someone in America is sexually assaulted. In 2006, there were 272,350 victims of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault. (These figures do not include victims 12 years old or younger.) According to the U.S. Department of Justice's National Crime Victimization Survey there were 272,350 sexual assaults in 2006. 17.7 million American women have been victims of attempted or completed rape. In 2003, lesbians, gays, bisexuals, or transgender people(LGBT) experienced 6,523 incidents of domestic violence. About 3% of American men — or 1 in 33 — have experienced an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime. 15% of sexual assault and rape victims are under age 12. 93% of juvenile sexual assault victims know their attacker(34.2% of attackers were family members, 58.7% were acquaintances, Only 7% of the perpetrators were strangers to the victim)Girls ages 16-19 are 4 times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault. Of female sexual assault victims 73% were assaulted by someone they knew. In 2005, 38.3% of all rapes and sexual assaults were reported to law enforcement. Almost 1/3 of all sexual assaults occurred at or in a victim's home. In 2005 389,100 women and 78,180 men were victimized by an intimate partner. Theses crimes accounted for 9% of all violent crimes.

rally and march to end violence against women. The rally will take place at Johns Hopkins University on "the beach" at 3400 N. Charles Street, Baltimore MD. At 6:30pm there will be music, an information fair and an art project. The rally will begin at 7:00pm and will feature speakers, music, and an open mic and will be followed by a march around the neighborhood at 8:00pm.
