The Saltmines is a community of musicians and artists who are committed to providing affordable space in NYC. Started in 2000, the Saltmines have been renovating low-rent commercial space to make it suitable for art and music studios. In NYC, as you may know, very difficult to find large, affordable, clean, and secure rehearsal and studio space. Our hope is by banding musicians and artists together we can improve our lot.
Music Rehearsal Space Options
- Monthly Time Slots
We offer both monthly time slots and entire rooms. If you choose a monthly times slot, for example Tuesday nights-- then you have Tuesday night for the entire month. We keep it simple as far as time slots-- day and night. Days are 5am- 5pm and nights are 6pm to 4am. For rate info click here . Each of the rooms have a manager who available to help you with any equipment and scheduling needs.
Entire Rooms
Sometimes we have entire rooms to offer if you are interested please ask us. Obviously, these are much more expensive and harder to come by, but can make sense if you can afford it or you have friends to share the burden. Also, we are particular to whom we offer this to because they are self managed. For more information on this please email us directly [email protected].
Equipment
Each room has a PA, mics, mics stands, and a house drum kit. Some of the rooms have a communal bass amp and/or guitar amp. These objects are marked and you may not use another band's equipment. You are welcome to store your own amplifiers and instruments. We also welcome you to set up recording equipment in the rooms.
Scheduling
We like to try to give bands the option (in rare occasions) to practice more for an upcoming gig or tour. We know how you may need to practice more in certain windows of time. To try to make this easier for people we leave some slots available in each room and have an online calendar to make it easier for bands to coordinate with each other. We don't charge more for an occasional additional time slot that you may take, but you will need to pay for more time if you are taking additional slots more than a few times a year.
Payment
Payment is due on the first of the month and there is a late charge of $25 for each week that you are late in payment.
Policies
We ask of few things of you if you wish to be a part of the Saltmines.
- No food. Do not bring in illegal substances Clean your garbage (must be taken out of the building) Respect your spacemates equipment. Turn off the equipment, heaters and lights when you leave.
